Post by xantia_v6 »

Normally we don't action for sale notices which are posted directly to the administrator contact form, but in this case I am making an exception. I have masked the phone number, but will make it available to regular members on requesst.

Buyer beware!

If you do contact Graham, and discover any other details (such as location) you may like to post them here.

Hi, I am trying to help a friend who has just lost her husband to Covid, and is struggling. She has a 1991/2 Citroen BX 1.6 GTI Meteor for sale which has only done a genuine 18000 miles. The car has just been MOT'd and is in reasonable condition. I hope you can help her, and I look forward to your response.
Thanks, Graham 07711 06 xxxx.

p.s. I have just seen the Features selection below, and don't feel I can burden her with questions at the present. Hope this is OK. G

Was there such a thing as a 1.6 GTi in the UK market?

I'm fairly sure the later 1.6s with injection were just badged "TXi" and were not 'performance' models, but I stand to be corrected...

I am no expert. Though have arranged to be in front the vehicle in very near future.

Thanks- I have a 1992 brochure in front of me and the 1.6 was still carb-only then, and definitely not sporty.

Still, sounds like a potentially good buy all the same!

Lance Cole ('Citroen - The Complete Story'*) lists a BX16GTi, 1985/6 onwards.

* A lushly-illustrated book from 2014, but the early copy I have here is awash with typo grizzlies. Otherwise, rather good, which obviously never got properly proof-read!

It may well be right in terms of the continental market but we never had the 1.6 Gti over here

Having seen pictures.
I can confirm it is a bx 16 TGS meteor and not a gti

I am still in discussion with the owner

Fingers crossed.

thanks, yes. I have just located a brochure. Defiantly not sporty

Looks like the meteor is just a TGS with sports seats, steering wheel and spoiler. No ABS or air con.

from the picture. it looks very tidy indeed.

Am thinking it over, really wanted a GTI. Perhaps this will do until one comes along.........

Oh - does anyone know what TGS's go for in good nick. All my research leans towards GTI's

Something that low mileage is incredibly, incredibly unique, even if a 'lesser' model. If I had one I wouldn't sell it for under £5,000

Wow £5k.
I guess that’s the “I don’t want to sell it price”
I guesstimated at £3k.

Guess I am miles off. No surprise there :)

I’d hazard a guess it’s one of, if not the, lowest mileage BXs in the whole country. A few years ago people would have said ‘yeah so what’, but they’re so rare now that it’s a unique car indeed.
Still, the market dictates price as always

True. If the mileage is correct. They also thought it was a gti. !

I am waiting to see an image of the instrument cluster.
