The 19 GTi was more sporty for sure. It had 124bhp as opposed to the the normal BX 19 which was 107bhp. The GTi would also have firmer suspension and hence a 'sportier' ride
They were sporty Rob, I remember mine gave a 924 a surprise when accelerating past it. The suspension was softer and after driving a 16v it was very noticeable around bends although I never found the 16v to be harsh at all so it was a win win for me. Compared to some cars now, it's extremely comfortable.
This pic is somewhere else on here but it was a black one. Also had Silver.
Prefer it to the Lamborghini, like Signor Gandini!
That's one of the great things about the BX — so many engine and trim options to choose from, and all pretty much interchangeable if you need to.
The "GTi" velour interiors found their way on to lots of models and special editions, and (within reason) there's scope for choosing alternative sphere specs for the desired level of comfort.

Normally we don't action for sale notices which are posted directly to the administrator contact form, but in this case I am making an exception. I have masked the phone number, but will make it available to regular members on requesst.
Buyer beware!

Hi, I am trying to help a friend who has just lost her husband to Covid, and is struggling. She has a 1991/2 Citroen BX 1.6 GTI Meteor for sale which has only done a genuine 18000 miles. The car has just been MOT'd and is in reasonable condition. I hope you can help her, and I look forward to your response.
Thanks, Graham 07711 06 xxxx.
p.s. I have just seen the Features selection below, and don't feel I can burden her with questions at the present. Hope this is OK. G

And the for day the GTi was reasonably quick with a manual box. And revving about 500rpm less at 70mph it's a rather more relaxed car than the 16v on a long journey. Either way both are good cars.
Good to know the differences of the GTi, I wasn’t aware of the extra power between it and the standard 19. I was vaguely aware of the spheres being different to stiffen it up.
Everyone has their favourite trim so I’m not knocking you for holding out for the GTi, I just thought it was a bit of a gimmic on the BX but stand corrected. For me, my dream one would probably be a 19TRS!

I also had a TRS back in the day. Loved it. Just prefer the former ride and extra oomph of the gti variants. Also they had the option for air con

Just buy a nice tzd turbo (there are still a few nice ones around) and re-badge it.
A few dials short of a gti, and only 10mph slower than an 8v, the downside being the 4500rpm redline, and the cloud of smoke.

I did consider that.
My current daily drive is a discovery sport d240.
For shorter hops it’s not ideal. So my bx has to be a petrol.
As I owned a gti back in the day, that’s my preference again now. For now I have a very nice meteor to scratch my bx itch.

That worked out well didn't it.
Well done
It may not be a GTi but you probably have one of the nicest BX's in the UK, I wouldnt be swapping it for a GTi etc unless a REALLY nice one comes along.
A nice low miles BX in any spec is a rare beast.
Enjoy it but keep it away from road salt and I hope you have a garage for her?

I used to run a 924 in the late 80s. I remember once being very impressed in France when a diesel BX went flashing past me while I was doing 80. Intrigued I took up the challenge and went past the BX but however fast I went that BX was on my tail. I had to get up to 115 to shake it off.
I bought my first BX a GTi 3 years later and have always had at least one BX ever since.
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.

I tend to agree. It’s a tidy original car.
Though I suspect those that have been stripped, re painted etc are probably nicer.
Defiantly no salt roads. No storage. I may invest in a plastic tunnel thing.
