Speedo cable
I've noticed a slight clicking when pottering along (I'm retired in France). I think it may be something to do with the speedo cable. Checked the internet and spotted this: "Speedo cables fail regularly, but they’re no longer available. They’re long and run through the offside of the bulkhead and behind the dash at a sharp angle. If the speedo is wobbly or ticking, the cable is on its way out and you’ll probably have to get one made specially." Hmm, interesting. Does anyone know where I can get one made if I need to replace mine? Or..., if these cables are still available in France? Maybe I'll ask at my local Peugeot garage (they do all makes of cars) when I get them to check my exhaust and change the cambelt and water pump, and maybe fit a radio. Cor blimey, the list's growing and the dosh is shrinking. Thanks in advance.

It's a 1991 BX 'Image' with a 1.6 80ch engine, manual gearbox.

Re: Speedo cable
You'll find a complete one on Mister Auto France. Sorry, I just used the .es site ?. France will have it too.
https://www.mister-auto.es/arbol-flexib ... c69684ffba
Much shorter length for LHD (instrument pod and gearbox on same side of car).
O.E. part no. is 96 073 325
NFP at Citroen, but just enter this number on Mister Auto (which is PSA owned).
Check the cable route for kinks. Not unknown for mechanics to have mis-routed it. Should be smoothest possible curve.
If your original is ok, lubricate the inner with light engine oil.
The cable detaches from the rear of the instrument by pulling the large white collar away from the speedo; unclips.

Re: Speedo cable
They usually go where the top alloy collar meets the outer cable pvc casing, it kinks eventually wearing away the tiny strands of the inner cable, then it breaks, hence the wobbly speedo and ticking, you can try to straighten it and put some heat shrink over the kink.

Re: Speedo cable
A company in Italy has quite a few items for the BX and all other Citroen, going back to the 15s, including speedo cables
Pimax Srl (https://www.pimax.it)
Look for the Vintage Cars catalogue tab.
You probably know the cable is different on LHD (shorter) and is in 2 parts, lower and upper; you need both. Good luck.

Re: Speedo cable
I have to change Speedo cable . The OEN numbers for the top half is 95638113 and the lower half is 96073325. This is for the TRD/TZD RH drive.
But I cannot find the cable from the gearbox nor at the back of the engine bay. Help !

Re: Speedo cable
From Google.
The Citroen BX speedometer cable connects to the rear of the gearbox on the final drive housing, typically just above where the right-hand (long) driveshaft enters the differential housing.
Hope the helps.

Re: Speedo cable
Do you mean you can't find a replacement part or (more likely) you can't locate the lower cable. If so It plugs into the gearbox to the left of the diff looking upwards. It connects to the upper cable at around the cylinder head level coming up almost vertically past the exhaust. If you have ABS the connection is sometimes tucked behind the black plastic guide for the ABS pipes.
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.

They sell speedometer cables specifically for LHD BXs, I already checked with them a few months back.
