NOW SOLD! Mk1 BX 19RD Estate for sale

Post by AndrewJF »

Hi everyone - and thanks for reading my first post.

I am looking to sell my Mk1 BX 19RD Estate as I apparently have too many cars. I would like it to go to a Club member to be enjoyed, used and improved further, so am posting it on here first before advertising more widely if necessary.

I bought it a couple of years ago from a scrapyard that was about to strip it for parts following an MoT failure. Fortuitously they included a picture of the complete car with their first ebay parts listing so I called to enquire and ended up with the car - luckily before any parts had been taken off. Before that I believe it had been stored for a period. My intention was to get the car back on the road if possible - which it now is (see below)

During my tenure I have remedied the 4 (fairly trivial) MoT failure points and addressed another c. 30 items needing attention. It passed its MoT yesterday with one advisory on rusty hydraulic pipes.

Mechanically, the car is in reasonable shape. The odometer is showing just shy of 79,000 miles and its condition appears consistent with that. It runs and drives well, the engine doesn’t smoke and the hydraulics work smoothly, although the pump is clicking more often than it should. There is evidence of some care by the previous owner with a Bosch battery, some rubber pipework and front brake calipers all looking newish.

The interior is quite reasonable for a Mk1. The dash and switchgear are intact and everything works. The seat covers are slightly baggy but, barring a small rip in the driver’s seat and a v small hole in the passenger’s front seat, are undamaged. The two rear door cards have holes in the vinyl cappings which have been patched.

The bodywork is not in great shape. On the plus side, there is not much rust visible. The underside is sound, and the front door hinge mounts are OK. The rear door shuts where the rear quarter panel joins the shell are OK on the driver’s side but the passenger side shows some evidence of rust coming through. However, most of the panels are dented and/ or have chipped/ flaking paint. Whether this happened in the scrapyard or previously, I don’t know. The passenger side rear quarter panel is particularly bad, being pushed in above the wheel (with the dent extending forward to the passenger rear door) and with damage and rust at the bottom of the leading edge where it meets the sill. The passenger side front wing also has a bad, rusty dent just above the indicator. Much of the bodywork damage could be made presentable again with some time and effort but there are a few places where professional attention/ replacement panels may be needed to do so.

Overall, the car is now back to a useable state and, with further TLC, could be a very nice and original Mk1 BX Estate with much life left in it.

I’m happy to answer any questions and you’re very welcome to view the car by appointment. In terms of price, I’m open to sensible offers - there aren’t a lot of Mk1 BX Estates to use as a benchmark!

Andrew

Wow! That's quite something! Is this the car that the other fella on here owned? He also owned that white N-reg TZD Turbo, but I forget his name now!

I don't think I have a roadworthy mk1 estate on the register, so I'll add it. Are you able to find the RP/ORGA no.?

Moderator's note...

Andrew,

To prevent photos getting inverted (not properly attached to the post) . . .
- After hitting Attachments > Add files, and seeing the photo (file) appear in the list, with Place In Line and Delete File next to it, you need to

1: Position your cursor in the post, where you want the photo to appear
2: Then click Place in Line
The photo tag-line will then appear in the post.
- You can move them around if you need to, for a different order.
- You can add a caption to each, by entering text in the blank box next to Delete File (do this before Placing).

Do the same for any others, in any order you want.

Hit Preview to see what it all looks like.
Hit Submit when your happy.

I've rotated all your pix so far, first batch and the new ones.
Good photos! :)

The RP number is 3481. I’m not sure about the white TZD but the previous owner of my car (prior to the scrapyard) was a Kevin Egan.

I also own a Mk 1 BX14RE (RP 2569) which my father bought new, I learned to drive on and was the first car I owned. Plus a Mk1 14E (RP 2668) which is a car I’ve seen on the web and in the Citroenian in the past when the car looked pristine; sadly it apparently sat in a field for a decade before I bought it and was in a pretty sorry state.

I keep meaning to add these to your register (along with a Mk2 16TRS - G30APL - that my father again bought new and which I’d love to track down if it still exists) but haven’t quite got around to it - sorry, will try harder!

Wow! That's quite the collection!

Yes, Kevan Egan was the guy I was thinking of. The thread where he bought that estate is on here, somewhere.

I might already have your others, but feel free to just PM me the reg numbers if you don't want to go to the hassle of submitting them. I can pretty much work everything else out.

Hi all, I put together a list of work I’ve done on the car for a prospective purchaser so thought I might as well add it on here too. See below. I also put some tax on it today and went to get a pair of new front Michelins (I wasn’t happy with the age/ condition of one of the fronts, and the spare was damaged). It sat quite happily in Worcester bank holiday weekend traffic for an hour and a half - no dramas, breakdowns or warning lights. Maybe I need to give it a break (no pun intended!).

I’ve also been asked what price I had in mind. £1,500 seems about right to me but, as I said above, I’m open to sensible offers.

Work done:

Reattached front bumper
Fixed front passenger side inoperative interior door handle
Replaced tailgate gas struts
Reattached return pipe to power steering ram
Cleaned interior including carpets out
Applied rust converter to stabilise visible scabs
Replaced broken driver’s side front indicator
Replaced both steering rack gaiters
Replaced front & rear wiper blades
Replaced inoperative headlamp switch
Replaced broken driver’s side rear light cluster
Replaced passenger side rear indicator bulb
Cleaned up electrical contacts on switches & relays
Reattached engine bay earth lead
Repaired inoperative rear window wiper mechanism
Changed engine oil & filter (Purflux)
Renewed LHM
Replaced broken demister switch
Adjusted clutch pedal bite point
Replaced HP pump belt
Replaced both interior courtesy light bulbs
Repaired 2 small tears in front seat material
Fitted 2x new Michelin tyres

Dunno, but it's a shame a rare car like that can't fall into the right hands. :(
