Hi folks,

I thought it would be a good shout to introduce myself before I scurry off to the parts/cars for sale area looking for the parts my car needs!

I collected a BX break last year that needed quite a bit of welding plus some other bits, I already had a few projects on the go but it was free to a good home and I've always wanted one so I figured it wouldn't hurt to pick away at it around the other projects. I rented a recovery truck, and my partner begrudgingly rode shotgun to help with loading at the other end.

Being unused to the BX I didn't realise it would settle on the deck so quickly during our journey, luckily no harm done! I've since bought a twin axle trailer with a flat bed so shouldn't have to worry about that going forward mind.

Since landing back with me the main things I've done with it is give it a good clean inside and out, remove the interior to check the floorpans, and identify the parts that need replacing and the areas that need welding. We have a lot of other cars on the go so the BX has been on the back burner since then, however the intention was always to use this as our go to for long haul travel as my partner is Slovakian and before Covid we would find ourselves driving across the continent regularly as we prefer road trips to flying. The Honda Insight is a bit small for us and the dog, and seeing as borders are opening now it feels like a good time to focus on getting the BX in to shape for the 2,000 mile round trip!

Before cracking on with the welding I'll need to track down some parts to fix some of the mechanical problems, so hopefully with the help of the group I'll be able to source what I need to save this BX :D

Cheers,
Josh

Hi, and welcome.
Whereabouts in E.Sussex?
A lengthy list of cars there; are they all current, or some 'past glories' ?

My own red bx came from your neck of the woods 15yr ago. Worthing.
That had also had the salty sea air attack it and required a substantial amount of welding, but its done me proud and some 170k whilst I've had it.
Most bx parts can be got fairly easily off the net but if your fabricating you'll prob have to make your own repair panels.

I seem to end up everywhere these days! Now that the BX work is starting in earnest I thought it would be good to be on the forum to pick brains/parts stashes :D Good to see you here mate, I need to have a catch up on your BX thread!

I'm in Seaford, and alarmingly they are all current - I think it would take me quite come time to recall and list every car I've owned! :P The Insight and Clio are our daily drivers, the Favorit, Volvo and Shogun Sport were all in use as secondary cars until we went to Slovakia over the holidays and I laid them up.

Is yours a diesel? The chap who had mine previously worked in a lot of harbours, and also did a lot of mileage. it's sat on 281k miles from memory  Still starts and runs happily enough, the XUD motors seem to be pretty solid. In terms of repair panels, most of the parts I need to weld are flat or boxy sections on the inner/under structure, so shouldn't be too much grief to make repair sections up. The bit that I find tedious is removing everything nearby that will catch on fire/get damaged by heat.

Yes it's a turbo diesel with 295k so it's nicely run in, they are capable of high miles if looked after and not overheated as that kills them stone dead.. But there's not much to go wrong and if you've got a Bosch pump even better.
Have a good look at the rear axle mounts, you can get a better view if the lift the rear seat base cos this is the worst area to repair requires removing the fuel tank and rear axle, big job.

he doesn't have a bx and has never owned one,he had a 205gti in late 80s and still barks on about French cars being crap and that they're unreliable rust buckets built by peasants.

I'm up the other end of town in Chyngton, and I'd argue that my two BX's are rust buckets owned by a peasant
