The Top Gear effect? and the 'young timers' becoming cool.
I thought Fumblers was very reasonably priced and wasn't surprised when it was snapped up, hopefully by an enthusiast and not for a quick flip.

The market has dried up a fair bit. Not many offerings. Also, good BXs are hard to come by these days. Most are either complete basket cases or are owned by people who are holding onto them. As time goes on, I predict even higher prices. People will eventually learn about the interesting plastic body parts and other quirks that the BX has to offer. This isn't unique to BXs, as most 80s and 90s cars are gaining in value. This is especially true for retro-futuristic (or "cassette-futuristic") cars like the BX.
Proudly daily driving a 1989 BX 16 TRS since 2021

Nostalgia, them becoming old cars now and most 80's things being seen as cool! Also lockdown, people got bored, didn't go on holiday etc.

And yes the likes of Top Gear and a recent surge of magazine articles featuring them would all contribute.

I've jus increased the insurance value of my GT to £6000.....which is double what it was 5 years ago

I almost defied the wife and went for it but then I thought - I value my testicles a bit too much
Only kidding she's great but doesn't like BX's at all :( I've got too many cars and no more room, I need to sell something to justify another purchase, probably the Mini.

Yes Panky I also have the urge to buy something else, now the DS is done and the bxtd is 99% there now, I've have an itch that needs scratching, whilst my wife doesn't care what I buy next she has mentioned that parking space is becoming quite tight with 4 vehicles already..
So something small perhaps.....??

That's very nice but i'm thinking more along the lines of 2 wheels that won't take up too much space.

Surge in asking prices, or final sales prices? For the last few years there's been a lot of over talked prices, usually classic car "specialists" throwing a punt. I suspect some of this is nostalgia buying by people of a certain age and level of spare income that are (bored) looking for something to do. COVID has certainly helped this sort of buying.

From the tangible evidence I've seen, prices are increased but no where what they are talked up to. There are a plethora of cars out there for sale (not just on eBay), and at 30+ years old, many of them need a little work.

In all, I don't think the BX prices have kept up with the general market when looking at other brands and models of a similar age. They're also staying reasonable compared to say 205 8v GTi's!
