Hi,
I'm considering selling my BX 1.7 DTR estate, which I've owned since 1998.
It is a 1988 model, colour is Venetian Red. It has a current MOT.
Its a wonderful car, but I'm getting on now, and crawling around underneath fixing LHM leaks
doesn't thrill me anymore.
The engine is in very good condition, its done 167k. it will need a timing belt change at 170k.
I suspect? that it is still running on the original clutch. The smoke test at the last MOT gave a reading of 0.5%.
Needless to say, it goes like the clappers.
Bodywork is tatty. it was banged in the rear, and professionally repaired, the previous owner informed me.
Pranged in the front, at low speed, and unprofessionally repaired by me, back in 2002, due to dispute with insurance company. Looks ok, and passes MOT.
It has a slight leak from the PAS gland, which I actually replaced with a new one from Chevronics late last year.
This fixed things for a while, but now its dripping again.
The fuel gauge sender has stopped working, at the moment I am considering replacing it with a boat type
fuel sender, and some electronics. Replacement part from chevronics are unbelievable prices.
Its had various bits replaced over the last couple of years.
New alternator and battery.
New rear spheres.
Rear pipe work replaced.
Steering rack replaced (with another second hand unit).
Rear height stabiliser removed, cleaned and replaced.
Centre exhaust box replaced last year, rear box is ok.
The rear wash/wipe is currently not working.
Various spare bit and pieces, which can the new owner is welcome too.
Four decent tyres.
The car drives well, and has given brilliant service as a family workhorse.
However, the time has come for it to go to a younger enthusiast.
Many thanks to those members, whose helpful suggestions helped me sell my car.

Re: Bx 1.7 dtr
A rare and desirable car, the estate DTR turbo diesel.
Some pictures would help the sale greatly as would an asking price. What is the rust situation? It sounds very well looked after so I imagine that has been addressed too.
Good luck with the sale.

Can't beat a TD an estate even better. Should be nicely run in at that mileage, sure someone will snap it up.

Re: Bx 1.7 dtr
Is this still for sale? How much are you asking and whereabouts are you based? Cheers

Re: Bx 1.7 dtr
Hi Josh,
Yes, my BX is still for sale.
I was thinking of asking £600, although of course I am open to sensible offers.
I also have a quantity of Bx spares, which I want to throw in as well.
I live in Ilford, in Essex.
I might have a go and fixing the fuel gauge sender, and the rear wash/wipe.
The car tax and MOT run out at the end of November, if I remember correctly.
Bets regards, Valerie

Re: Bx 1.7 dtr
At £600 a bargain rarely do bx estates come up for sale and I expect this my be a rarity in itself poss only 1 of a few dtr's left (think 3 at the last count)
If I had the space I'd snap it up and risk the wife removing my b#######.
Throw £500 at it and you've got yourself a very usable motor, ideal for a first time bx'er providing they can weld.
I don't think it will stick around for long. You may have more luck if you advertise it on Car&Classic which is free.

Re: Bx 1.7 dtr
Thanks for your advice.
As far as I can tell, no welding is required.
I welded up some rust areas at the rear of the sills a year or so ago.
I am surprised these vehicles are sort after, especially considering the vehicle is 34 years old.
Best regards, Valerie.
