Where are all the bx's

According to howmanyleft there are approx 1400 bx still registered of which only a few hundred are licenced to 02/22. Yet in comparison Morris Marina 600 registered but over half that still licenced.
I've been to several showsthis year Ana a marina if not a few present at pretty much all of them but not a bx all year, all the usual 80s 90s hot hatches apart from the humble bx exception the ccc

Possibly, a lot are on SORN, passed on owner to owner but nobody ever quite gets the time to convert them from a project to their dream classic. When one comes up for sale, it's often the case. " Bought this with the intention of restoring it but.......,..., an ideal project for someone" else! I imagine many are so far gone that unless you are prepared to spend vast amounts of time and money, they will never be driven again.

I've not seen a BX on the road or at a show for literally decades although a guy I know sees one regularly on his way to work in Warrington.

I only know 1 white estate I have seen a few times near Wisbech A47, seen this year and a few years ago.

you are right they buy the cars for projects and never get done
lose interest and that's it i'm feeling like that now and its only
been sorned a few weeks trouble there's no one local can fix
it they want a lot of money to transport the car to be repaired

Trouble is with 30 odd year old cars, is that biggish jobs turn into bigger jobs then it starts costing lots of money, money you didn't budget for, so it gets put by the wayside, until......
The problem with bx's, when you do re-pipe you WILL need to do "other stuff" along the way, your rear height corrector may be weeping £130, you rear arm bearings may be shot £100, perished return pipes £?? set of front to rear pipes £140, pair rear brake pipes £50.
This is without labour costs at £50-100 per hour.
To do all that is a good day's work so realistically you could have a 4 figure bill, plus the cost of transport.

I had a predicament a few weeks back, the engine in my 65 plate Peugeot boxer let go at 320k, it needed a new one at £5600 fitted, I can I'll afford a new/newer van at 20k+ and I need it for work, so had to bite the bullet, ouch.

As someone who's not from the UK, it is quite interesting to hear how rare BXs are.
I live in Serbia, and there are at least five registered BXs being used as daily drivers around, one of them being mine. While it could be classed as a classic/project, mine is less so that and more so a daily. It doesn't use much fuel, parts are cheap and it is really comfortable. The only issues mine has are a leaky vacuum line which makes starts a bit slow when cold, and a leaky carburetor I need to send in to get rebuilt.

Mine is SORN for the winter. I am located in Halesowen in the Midlands and I haven't seen another BX in the area for years.

BX's were well represented at Festival of the Unexceptional aswell as CCC events. The only other even I went to was the Wem vehicles of interest and my BX was the only one there. Although mine is a low mileage car it still has quite the list of jobs that I want to do. I had to have the head gasket replaced last year which was a cost I hadn't factored in to owning a very low mileage BX. Even nice cars always have small jobs that want doing without factoring in the general cost of ownership. I think it's fair to say owning an old car can always be classified as a project....

Yes it is getting more onerous to own on oldie.
I needed to get petrol in a rush the other day and all the only garage on my route had was E10 so I had to put in 10 litres to get me back on route. I have since then had a look around to see if any Super Unleaded 98 is available anywhere locally and all I found is E5 or E10. I am happy to use E5 but would prefer to fill up with 98 every time. Does anyone have access to this or has it disappeared from the market.

Do you have an Esso nearby? In most parts of the country their Supreme 99 E5 is actually advertised as Ethanol free.

Yes, I will check it out but something does not compute there because E5 means 5% Ethanol and cannot thus be ethanol free.

You are correct. But according to Esso there isn't a specific specification anymore for ethanol free petrol thus it can't say ethanol free on the pump. Hence it shows the next best thing E5.
