Dash lights

Post by Jacobsmithxxox »

Hi, when I start my 1991 19 TGD the “STOP” light and the coolant level light come on the dash. After about 30seconds to 1minute they then go off and don’t come on again. Does anyone know what this might be down too?
Thanks

I'm sure you've checked but is the coolant level above the sensor and at the right level? Failing that it could simply be a lazy sensor reacting slowly or a bad connection on the plug.

I have checked and all seems right! I had thought perhaps it was a sensor problem as it goes off and doesn’t stay on,,, thanks!!

I’d check the coolant level first, it sounds to be slightly low. When the engine starts, it’ll raise the level slightly & put the light out.

Failing that, check the contacts on the switch on the side of the radiator. It’s the 2 thin wires that you’re interested in. I’d suspect corrosion either on the ends of the wires or on the sensor terminals. If there’s any corrosion & the switch can’t get a circuit for whatever reason, then it’ll show a warning, despite there being enough coolant in the radiator.

If that doesn’t work, the control box is higher up next to the radiator, but I’ve never tested it to see what connects where.

Hope that helps.
