so if I keep the BX, how do I get it repaired (totally) for around the same price as the ZX? I need a car that is ready to go within a week or so and is safe for my wife and daughter to get into?

Bear in mind with the ZX:

Citroen started with the Heater Matrix, then built a car round it.
Rear arm bearings often chew through the rear beam before people notice they are chuffed and can not be replaced like the BX items.
Its a Pug 306 really.
It has "normal" suspension and isnt as nice a drive as the BX.

On the plus side:

There is less to go wronk.
The rear subframe ass'y makes cornering at speed fun.
The "volcane" edition is even more fun
16V are trouser stainingly good fun to drive in the wet
The 1.9D N/A engine is virtually bulleproof if looked after (unless your name is Marty)
They have a useful adjustable rear loadspace
They have galvanised bodies
They can be quite reliable (if looked after)
They can be picked up cheaply
No one will look at you twice in one.
The French Police use them (mind you the British Police used to use Allegros....)
They are simple to work on really.

I am currently selling a ZX Volcane TD with loads of recent work, not for that kind of sum either, has your mechanic got a large window on his workshop in order to see people coming?

Have a look in the for sale section. for that money you could 'take your pick', theres a Hurricane & a 16v on there i'd love, both are desirable models if you want to stay in a BX

All it wanted was a good service.

I'm expecting years of service out of it now.

I do have a subframe you can have but it would need collecting as the postage is expensive or if someone is near you and they are going to the ccc event on saturday I could bring it with me.
