Mmm, very interesting. This is indeed the car I went to look at last year, while it did have more than it's fair share of issues. I would certainly have given £160 for it as the main ingredient of the car (the body) was very good.
However I didn't feel like paying the £400 the seller was asking.

Good look with it and I'm sure if you put the effort in, you'll get the rewards.

Hi guys, thought I would give you an update on the car as ive been getting a lot done on it.
So far ive had the engine fully serviced and oil leak fixed.
Its had new spheres all round and accumulator, 4 new tyres, 2 new brake flexi's fitted and the air con system was regassed and serviced and is now working perfectly.
Its also been throughly cleaned inside by myself.

Oh and the hydraulic system was flushed and cleaned as well.
Next jobs on my list are new door locks cause there a bit dodgy and a new ignition coil as the one in the car seems to get stuck once ive started it.
The problems with the electric windows and heater etc was because the ignition coil was getting stuck after starting it and not allowing power to the appliances as normal so I have to nudge the key back a bit after starting to get power, very strange.
I think once thats sorted all it needs is the ugly rusty tow bar removed as I shall never use it anyway and a total respray, it'll be a nice running and looking car then.

Busy is right!

Well I am slowly learning just how many faults were on this car, plenty of them hidden away.
After doing all the jobs I mentioned before everything was going great but a few days later disaster struck and I got up to find the cars blood all over the drive.
I decided not being too great with mechanics that this was beyond me so I took it to a citroen specialist that I know of and he quickly told me it was no big deal and fixed it a day later, great I thought.
Next day go to take a drive, turn the key nothing happens what so ever.
Battery completely dead so I charged it and took it to my mechanic who said at first the alternator was dodgy but after much testing it wasnt but he couldnt figure out what it was, anyway a week goes by and after much messing around he discovers its the ignition barrel.
Turns out a previous owner of the car not only did the most dodgy install of an ignition barrel ever seen but it wasnt even the right one for the car, the car was starting and that was apparently good enough for who ever did it.
Dont fully understand exactly what the prob was but lets just say a lot of electrical tape and cut wires was involved as well as seemingly spare wires just left dangling behind the plastic.
Got that replaced anyway and everything finally works great, the dash lights even stay on! hurrah!

A week goes by and flat battery again, charge it and take it back to mechanic, he finally decides the alternator is to blame and im no awaiting that job to be done though ive been told some belts need changing as well, something to do with power steering so thats being done too.
I just hope when I get the car back early next week its gonna give me the odd month's trouble free driving.

Its strange though, im throwing money at this car in rather large amounts and yet I still love it.
Oh and I thought I'd ask cause the other day I had a thought, I reckon I am quite possibly the youngest driver of a BX here in this club or maybe even one of the youngest in the country, im only 22 by the way.

Welcome to the world of BX`s! Just when you think everything is fine something else comes along, which in truth is really like any other used car out there.
You probably are the youngest on here, closely followed by me. At the top end of the scale we have people like Vanny, Ian Fearn, Tim Leech, Kitch & Barnsley BX`er, all of whom must be well into their seventies by now

(Wonder who`ll be first to react?)

Yeah think im just old for my age, got married stupidly young then just to finish my youth off we had a kid very young too, haha.
Still the BX is gonna be great im sure once all these jobs are done, how much more can go wrong....heh maybe I shouldnt say that.....

no, I wouldn't.

Trouble is, when you're putting right someone else's neglect and misuse, it can be very expensive and/or time consuming.

This was a nice car with loads of potential, but you really need to sort it out or you may be continually troubled with annoying faults or breakdowns.

Oh, it`s REAL age? I thought it was mental age in which case just reverse what I said before. I`m now near the top and the others are propping the rest of us up
