The old BX14 with the Visa (150) engine that is.Vanny wrote:the 1.4 and 4x4 DEFFINATELY have a different subframe!
Turbo diesel should be the same as the 16v, but you never know with these strange french car molesters!
The later BX14 with the AX (TU3) engine shares the same type front subframe as the rest of the BX range over the years - only exception as vanny points out : the 4x4.
There is no special subframe on the 16V or turbodiesel.
Upto approx '85 the lower control arm mounting bolt (that long one with a nut each end) had a diameter of 14mm. These were changed to 16mm diameter. The hole diameter in the subframe and control arm bushes were changed accordingly.
Note that the lower control arms are the same - its just the rubber bushes that changed bolt diameter.

How bloody bored where the Citroen techs on that day?
How does one tell the difference between the older and later 1.4 engines? Mrmrwray had the 1.4 engine in a J-reg St Tropez, and the exhuast came up over the front subframe then down under the engine to the front of the block, it was where the exhaust was between the subframe and engine that held the major difference, ARB also has a big bend in the middle too.
I had thought that was the later TU engine (looks the same as the 205 XS and AX engines), but maybe it was the earlier? I dont really know what the two look like!
If you dont know the difference between the type 150 and the TU3 14 engine - then you dont need to bother.Vanny wrote:How does one tell the difference between the older and later 1.4 engines?
The difference is about the same as between a V6 and a straight 4.
If you can miss that you can miss anything - which I certainly believe you do now & then young man

well i guess i've never seen the type 150 then
the engine in matts car had what looked like a standard BE1 gearbox so i guess thats a TU! Can't say ive seen anything else in any other car! I wasn't sure if they would be massively different or not, the XUD isnt too far away from the HDi engine, figured these would be the same!
Now on the hunt for the old block!
