A BX weekend adventure - and rehabilitation of a style icon

Saturday morning saw Tom and I leaving Southampton at 6.30 for the wilds of mid-wales on the trail of what has proved to be a style icon in need of TLC - Ron Kemp's free TZD turned out to be an H-reg red tizzydee estate.

10.30 or so saw us making our way up a track that might have been designed to show off a BX's raised height setting and our first sight ofd Clarence, thus named because of a slight accident with the neighbour's tractor some years ago that left the car with one rather skewiff headlight (fixed at the time, but the name stuck). Faded red would be a fairly kind description of its hue but it was all there, although certain parts of the interior were only dimly visible under a carpet of German-Shepherd hair.
I half-expected to find a kennel under the rear hatch (back in situ for possibly the first time in 15 years).

Some surprises: a working plip, roadwheels more used to having snowchains than hub trims attached, Roof-bars thrown-in for a nominal fee and the traditional spare bottles of LHM .

After taking our leave of the very friendly Ron Kemp and his wife ( who make and sell spare parts for Vincent motorbikes to make a living), Tom and I proceeded in convoy down the mountain on the V-profile rubble track, while overhead a red kite bade us farewell.

A short time later, enjoying a coff & muffin break at Leominster, we found ourselves looking at the service history , a brochure from the time of purchase and sundry other goodies. Back in Soton by 3.30 or thereabouts, after an Italian service, we set to. Details and pics to follow.......

Nice one, sounds look a good, well organised rescue mission and it`s obviously gone into good hands. Before and after pic`s will be good to see.

We had the benefit of a demon route from Mr Kemp and a completely glitch free day. Absolutely nothing went wrong, we even saw the police car in time...(brakes work then...)
The difference we made to it in the following 24 hours was surprising. The electrical debug was quick and simple. No fan, no indicators, sometimes, and some filthy rear lights. Not bad for a BX. No leaks and no creaks from a decent back end. A pair of newish spheres were fitted to the front but that was about all that has so far been done apart from a bit of polishing. Looks as though with a little more work and some elbow grease, David will have a fine car here for little outlay

Doh!! "Before" pics scanned, then couldn't find CDR to burn and take to library. Now sitting at library in front of PC attachhed to scanner, with no pics to hand..... Was too knackered to progeress thingas any further last night apart from MOT and storage arrangements.

In the stuff I scanned last night was an original UK colour and trim chart for 1991, which is interesting (or at least it is to an oBXessive like me).

Does it have to be a TZD to be a Style Icon

or will a TXD suffice?
