BX TD ABS offside driveshaft.
Any compatible replacement, eg. xsara, xantia or 309? Cannot find the BX item on GSF and the tripode joint is loose on the one I have.

Xantia ones are different lengths at the furthest end, however the intermediary shaft is the same length and the CV's are the same size. Note this comparison was made with the drive shafts of a TD estate which has seriously beefed up drive shafts, and these are swapable into the 1.8 petrols.
I believe the shafts of the 309 GTi and Diesels are the same as the BX but only by word of mouth!

Tom - have a look at these links - the Car Parts Direct one suggests they will supply the outer joints alone which may be all you want.

Thank you all. I won't be going to Stratford but the paramilitary wing has tentacles everywhere, so something can be worked out if needed. It is the inner joint that is concerning me, for there is a lot of play radially, an occasional vibration and a clonk on takeup. If the Xantia is just shorter, I may be able to recycle the old shaft with some new bits so all comes right in the end. Again, thank you.

You could buy the RH one they list as 'non abs' for TD and GTI. If this has no ABS ring on the CV joint you could reuse the cvj from your existing shaft.

I *think* BX and 405 shafts are the same length. Certainly having had a BX and a 405 shaft together on the bench there's very little difference. If there is, it's no more than 10mm
You've then got the whole "what type of ABS ring do you need" malarky from the 405, and I don't know if either the fine or the coarse type are even similar to the BX.

David - I was caught out on the ABS tooth question - and knew nothing about it at all. Looking at the car parts direct joint catalogue I thiink the answer is that Citroen only used one ABS system which was NOT Bosch. Peugeot used Bosch and Bendix and I think Bosch has half the teeth.
Some of the outer joints for Peugeot at the same as Citroen - but there seems to be a change in about 92.

AFAIK from working at Euros, no other car uses the same shaft as the BX.
Although obviously all the inner halves are the same on XU engines, other than the number of splines.
