Just saw a few pics of this BX Sport that this guy in Portugal restored. What an amazing machine!!!! I can't get over that car!

Where do I get one or do I get in the queue like everyone else???

Anyone got some nice pics of a BX Sport that I might be able to put on my website. email me at merb@tpg.com.au with pics.

Tame - you want the real thing

I seem to recall on one of the boards that one came up for sale recently - and didn't go for really stupid money.

Michael, that`s one of, if not THE best BX`s I ever seen. In some ways I like it better than the one Jeremy has `spotted` (though that`s nice too).

I'd like to be added to the list too!

Don't know why, the 16v is quicker and arguably better looking. But thats so rare and cool!

Its amazing to see just how many parts on the 16v are the same as that. Bumpers are nearly the same, wheels etc.

The 16 valve is of course an evolution from the GT. The curious thing is that while Citroen used Bosch fuel injection on the DS and the SM (later back to carbs?) they seem to have steered clear of the Bosch K Jetronic system entirely and not used the Bosch electronic system until the Mk 11 BX in 1986

Despite its 2 Webers I don't think the GT had as much power as the 8 valve GTi.

Someone's now going to tell me the CX had fuel injection before 86!

BX sport

Post by Mike E (uk) »

The BX sport was only made in Left hand drive, and was never sold in the UK.

It had 125hp, from a 1.9 8V with two solex side-draught carbs, and modified head,new camshaft,and a tuned exhaust

It was very similar in performance to the 8V GTI, but (not surprisingly)had more thirst.

It seems to me that it was a MK1 trial run for the MK2 GTI.

I have only ever seen one, on the Canary Islands.

I agree that it does look cool.

I used to live in Agen, SW France and there was one regularly running about the town there. My mate Pierre is briefed to locate the owner if possible as I know it was for sale recently but didn't sell. I know it's still a runner as Pierre has seen it recently doing about 80 on the N21...!

So I will call Pierre this week!

Thanks Phil,

That would be great.

LHD isn't a problem. I have a RHD MK1 BX19GT donor car to use for the conversion to RHD
It has the black dash too and all of the bits required for the conversion. The reason it's being scrapped is that the engine is shot and the body is really scruffy. The components I need are all in tact though. Now.....for some money!!!!!!!
Any donations or do I need to join the queue there too!!!

Did you mean the Sport? That had twin carbs but the GT has a single twin choke carb. Not as powerful as a GTi....in fact theres nothing remotely sporty about a GT....they're comfy cruisers!

Yeah the GT is a comfy cruiser. At the time it was produced though, it was quite worthy of its GT badging, being almost as quick as a Golf Gti. Unless you got somethng rather serious in 1985, not much had a 0-60 time less than 9.4 seconds.

It was 9.9 wasn't it? But even so thats only a paper figure.

Although I've only driven older examples, they're not a revvy car and the gear ratios aren't what I'd call sporting. I'm probably biased as I'm coming form a 16v, but to me it wasn't sporty in the slightest.

XR4i's would have tanned it every which way on a track or on the straight in 1984, whereas the GT seems far more happy sitting back at around 80mph and just wafting along briskly.

I bet the XR4i was alot more money, and it had another 900cc and 2 more pistons to boot!

Yes the XR4 was a lot more expensive, but still good value. In 1986, the BX19 GT cost £7289, and the XR4 cost £10,324. This is according to a 1986 Whatcar mag by the way. The 0-60 of the BX GT was 9.7 seconds, the XR4 8.3, so yeah an XR4 is a lot quicker. I know what you mean about the GT preffering lower revs, however peak power is where the red line starts (5600 RPM) Whatcar magazine says:

"In its new-found two-litre guise the BX is both lively and fast; it's perhaps the first compact Citroen capable of genuinely rapid performance. The flat torque curve of its 1905cc engine promises good flexibility too, which, in turn means fewer gearchanges during normal driving. In short, the BX19GT is a deceptively fast machine; its no boy racer but a comfortable family hatchback that can be surprisingly quick when roused".
