She finally threw the towel in

Post by Kitch »

Sad day :( The 16v expired in a big puddle of oil tonight.

It had been leading to it for a while. Cracked windscreen, constantly creaking nearly seized rear arms, no PAS, a gearbox which was very hard to engage gear, loud noisy tappets, duff oil pressure gauge, major on and off LHM leaks, cracked exhaust, untraceable knocking from O/S front wheel area, bald tyre, a burning smell everytime you ragged it and fumes enough to give you a headache on every drive. It had kept going including a trip to Hull and back in one day at not completely legal speeds, the trip to Huntingdon for the national rally and the trip yesterday to Stratford for the CCC midlands event. It seemed wrong yesterday, very wrong. It was really a question of when rather than if.

The V5 came through for the ZX this morning so I could tax it and get it into service. The BX only had to make it until this day, and on this day it gave in. Took it to girlfriends nan's house who agreed to store it while I had some more space to work on the grey 16v I have and it dumped its gearbox oil right outside her house as soon as I arrived. Won't go into gear now either. Whether the box coming off problem has returned to haunt me remains to be seen, could be a duff gearbox itself.

As many of you will remember her:

RIP

The life support has officially been turned off, just like a human :(

BUT.....unlike a human, we can turn it back on again! It may be a while until it happens, but you can be sure of one thing.....

IT WILL RETURN

Cheers Chris, I might take you up on that. Nothing like a good bit of heckling to keep me going when working on these things!
Didn't realise yours was dead Vanny.....I actually think yours poisoned mine due to the driveshafts....they were in one and then the other. Passed on like a disease

It might take a while but it'll get there. In the meantime I can drive the grey one about if I need a fix! What I'm really happy about is it waited as long as it had to and got me through! Did all the shows and events during the summer that I needed it to, and just kept going. It deserves to be saved because of that.

Post by Geoffrey Gould »

Hello Kitch I am sorry to hear that your car has died, it is indeed a sad day when that happens. :( but it is a smashing looking car 8) and worth saving because of that. Im not sure what Chris would say but if he comes down to you then if it's OK I may well join in as well, not much good at owt but great at telling you what you have done wrong and generally taking the p+ss. Best of luck and keep your chin up.
Cheers.
Geoff.

Thats what I thought. I'm not angry, I'm slightly upset but it was expected really. Be nice to be able to drive it home again, but now it'll have to be towed which makes you feel a bit sick seeing your pride and joy on a tow truck.
