Project update:
Came outside and someone had nicked the engine (presumably a 205 owner)
Its ok though, they didn't get far. They broke into my garage and dumped it there....must have been too heavy!
Next step is to rebuild the new engine. Should take place over the next couple of evenings. Might even be able to refit it Saturday....who knows?!

Yeah the accm sphere is the same. I never fitted them to the car myself, and to be honest I never would. The proper 16v spheres are still available, and you don't save much money.
That said, this one rides and handles very well.

Right more progress. I cracked off the headbolts and hoisted the whole thing up onto the trusty workmate.
Spent ages faffing around trying to remove the gearbox, hampered mainly because the O/S inner driveshaft just refused to come out of the bear housing! In the end I had to remove the whole engine mount housing and even beating it with a large hammer now, it still won't come out!!
Anyway, got it off:
Got round to the timing end of things and successfully rounded off a bolt holding the tensioners on....luckily I don't need them! Cut the belt off in the end!
Finally things started going my way and the head and block have been split. This bit I need:
This bit, I do not:
Happily apart from obvious crank damage, the liners and pistons etc look good. The head gasket was fairly new too and very little coking. Its been looked after.
Next stop is to bolt head to new block and refit to car.

Had a semi-productive day today. Engine is rebuilt and back in. Didn't get it running as I think the donor car had air con, this one doesn't and the loom is different So more time required to get it all plumbed in and running, but its in there at least! New head gasket, cambelt etc....should run nicely.
The engine nearly rebuilt:
And fitted into the car!
We did think about tuning it and using alternative Si power instead of the XU9J4, but decided the running costs were too high:
Plus we couldn't shut the bonnet

I'd imagine because they've been regassed. Can't find a receipt for sure, but I reckon its been done. Proper 16v spheres are slightly tricky to come by these days, so I except a previous owner bought regular BX ones and had them stiffened slightly. It handles like it should, so thats my guess
When its all running and cleaned up, you can have a blat in it

Making progress (pics to follow)
Electrics are all hooked up now. I ended up having to change the whole loom, not just a small bit
Intake manifold is on, got a few more anciliaries to hook up and I'll try firing it up. I tried turning it over on the starter yesterday and all seems good.

Right following on from last post, got the HP pump and some more bits hooked up:
Then reached a point today, where I had everything bolted on that needed to be in order for it to run....technically!
First turn of the key....it does!!!
A million and one warning lights on because nothing is hooked up. Thats all to do tomorrow, I just wanted to see if it ran.
But I thought I might be cheeky while it was ticking over and tighten up the pressure reg release bolt:
Result! Tomorrow is cooling system (so I can run it for longer than a minute!) and the rest of the extras, plus the bumper etc. Then next week MOT hopefully.
Then.....she's ready to find a new home once I've given her a thorough cleaning and polishing.
