A huge 'If'...

Post by Philip Chidlow »

'If' I was mechanically skilled and had the time, space, money and equipment I would have it. C'mon save it, someone!

Quick...

It`s a fair old trek for most of us too. What that needs is a 1.9TD lump in it and to be resprayed in white, then VOILA! the perfect BX!

It looks reasonable value for money if someone has time and skills to replace the engine, be nice to see on of our mob buying it and saving it. Over to you, Ken?

Agreed, it's very cheap! They are only 5.5j wheels though :(

Cheers

True they are the skinnier wheels same as my old Gti 8v but they dont wear as badly as 2 tonethe 16v ones.

It's only up the road from me....

Skills? Yes
Tools? Yes
Time? Er, not really
Inclination to change another BX TD headgasket? NEVER AGAIN!

Mind you my mate's looking for a 'kit' car. Maybe this would do!
I NEED a BX TD.

Well, I could easily tow it back from scotland, and a BX estate is the only one I really fit into properly (for headroom)

to follow on from Richard above:

Skills? Yes.
Experience? Done so many I've lost count.
Tools? Somewhere in the garage.
Time? Not a single moment available.
A huge stack of other projects that will keep me busy for years to come? You betcha.

On my braked (and hence vaguely-legal) self-steering A-frame?

One hell of a lot easier than towing a trailer both ways I can assure you.

My Cars: 90s/00s - lots of BX hatches/estates 16/19i/17td/19d
2020s - A shinier red TZD estate has replaced scruffy 19TXD "Red Shed".

This car has the less common grey "Z" interior as opposed to the more usual grey and black. Very unusual in a red one - more often seen on the white cars.Save this style icon, someone, please, so long as the rear arch rust is not like some of the recent examples on ebay.

Edinburgh is where I came in to the world, but since leaving in 19humpthy-humph at the tender age of eight years I've only been back once, on a rather mad drive-up-today-and-back-tomorrow trip.
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

This seems worth saving, as I said, and once a BX has wormed its way into a relationship, it'll stay - possibly even for the better!

Yes.

Head off, Strip out camshaft and followers. Have head skimmed.

Measure head bolts for new if needed (probably not... they're usually in tolerance)

buy multi-layer steel-laminate gasket, head set, cambelt and water pump.

Grind in valves. Set clearances.

Put everything back together.

Drive.
