BX crash safety

Post by jeremy »

Fascinating discussion, some in english on the crash worthiness of a BX - includes actual experience of hitting a motorway fence at speed.

WTF? I think its a joke or satirical article as it also quotes a comment from Victor the dog.

Is this how the French refer to a "Red Herring"? Maybe the absence of carrying a goldfish in a bowl?

Unfortunately, I can now give you some first-hand experience of BX crash-worthiness, having rear-ended someone at about 40-50 km/h on the French motorway last weekend. Particularly scary since it was in the midst of a total white-out caused by a Scenic belching thick white smoke from its engine (and yet still trying to drive along, incredibly). No-one's fault, according to the gendarmes. Anyway, the entire engine bay concertina'ed and the steering column was slightly deformed (couldn't get the ignition key out...), but my passenger and I got off virtually unscathed, bar some minor whiplash and bruising from the seatbelts. I was then treated to the sad sight of watching the entire contents of the hydraulic system emptying itself on to the outside lane :( With Maud officially dead, I'm buying a boring Opel from a friend until I have the time, money and parking space for that CX turbo I've always wanted :) Thanks for all your technical advice over the last few months and may your BXs survive longer than mine!

Image - I'm not sure which country you live in. While idly searching Autotrader website over the weekend I found a nice looking and sounding CX GTi Turbo2 (E reg) which may be of interest.

Jeremy,
Thanks a lot! I'm in eastern France, next to the Swiss border, unfortunately. I'm keeping a vague eye on ebay and the small ads here, as things do come up quite a lot, but that's really a longer-term plan. Plus my girlfriend wants to get her driving licence and making her learn on a CX might be a bit mean...

Yes - not only is the CX rather large but hardly a typical drive!

I'm sure it would cause amusement with examiners - in fact the story of a girl taking her test on a CX would probably go round for years!
