Worst radius arm bearing Chris (Doc) has ever had to do
Came out in a few bits:
And the arm was a little worse for wear....hopefully it'll last another year:
I reckon I could do one on my own now though. I've done alot more intense repairs than that, but its one of those I don't trust my own hands with, so many thanks to Chris for providing the extra skills.
Didn't soften the back end though....I've got very stiff spheres

I'm sure Doco must be relieved to know that your back end wasn't softened and that your spheres are still stiff - lest he get a little worried!!
My n/s rear bearings weren't far off that about 18 months ago - photo reminds me of how many bits came out and how 'dented' the bearing surface on the arm was....
Anyway, at least your back end won't squeal any more....

Tis a very straightforward job really, just need big hitting sticks and suitable things to hit!
Thanks for the beer, pie's and light unit Kitch! Muchley appreciated!
I reckon the arm will go on for a long time yet mate. But if a good set of arms turn up for not alot then always worth having!
Cheers

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
Regardless of what anybody says, that job goes two ways; simple, straightforward, in and out in no time or all hell breaks loose and when it does................oh brother.
Many moons ago we did a CX. First side was 45 minutes, second side we spent almost 4 hours and ended up at an engineering works on a Sunday with the guy who owned the show F'n and bind'n, grinding, heating, pressing and improvising and at the end of the day, my mate, a Cit mechanic, the guy from the engineering shop and myself all sitting around trying to work out why we had so much bother.
Just seems to be the nature of the beast.

By the time you're old enough to know it all, you can't remember why you were learning.
Even if it doesn't sort out the suspension, it gives you a nice feeling of satisfaction to know that the bearings have been done. My BX used to make an embarrassing creaking sound which was getting worse and worse. I was lucky, I had no real problems changing them, except one of the break pipes sprang a leak. It's probably worth giving the break pipes a good probing with your fingers to see if there are any weak spots before you start. Or better still, make sure you have spare pipes on hand before you start.
