My father's got a Sierra Saphire 2ltr injection Ghia for sale, genuine 40K, automatic, J reg and not battered? not a 4x4 I know, only asking in case....
Cheers, although its not quite what i'm after....

I thought about a Subaru Justy but the Panda seems to have a better 4x4 system being very similar to my VW T25 Syncro.

Basically i'd never have a car that is considered fashionable. It started at the age of 17, all my mates had Nova's and Fiesta's and i had a 2cv!

Its a pukka campervan, genuine VW conversion being a Westfalia.

Slept it in last night outside Tim2cv's house after a serious night out in Derby. Had a blissful sleep.... :)

I've been trying to get through this thread but I'll take the shortcut...If you're after something like a Panda - and I know you have a 4x4 fetish and my suggestion is not 4x4 but....... how about a Mini (A British one!!) There must be so many examples around you could take yer pick. No where near as 'niche' as a 4x4 but bags of fun!!!???

BMC/BL mini - fun? - what are you on? - can I have some?

If your hobby is welding and paint spraying - well perhaps.

No not keen on BMC Minis - OK in 1959 - should have been replaced in 1969 at the latest by something with a decent engine and transmission which didn't destroy itself etc.

Was very pleased when the wife's Mini 1000 expired 4 years ago and we replaced it with a ZX 1.9D - which is so much cheaper to run its almost untrue (as well as being about 25 MPH faster, with a 0 - 60 time of 2/3rds or less and doing 10 MPG more)

If you're going to pay Xantia V6 consumption etc you might as well have a Jaguar or Mercedes ?

True enough maybe but 1/10th the character IMHO!!! I used to get 35 - 40 mpg out of my morris minor so I would of thought a Mini would be the same if not better....You obviously have bad memories of the wifes mini...

I disagree, although I don't know the exact figures, a Jag/Merc is bound to be a heavier motor, with far less character, plus you've got a good wedge of cash invested in the M/J as compared to the Xant.

Yes Mini would do 35 - 40 MPG - which actually was one of the complaints - ie it was too thirsty. She made the same mistake of buying a mini twice - first was an 850 and that was disposed of again due to excessive running costs and replaced by a Renault 4.

Character comes from something that works nicely - not something that is so poor it becomes your life's work. I found that due to poor control operation and position it was actually rather slow in traffic - as basically nothing worked nicely.

We had a new MG Metro - again an unbelievably slow car due to its poor chassis - my XJ6 series 111 was actually more agile on small lanes - and didn't feel as though it was going to fall over if swerved when travelling fast.

1997 - Xantia V6 - fuel consumption 16.4, 33.6, 24.4.

Jaguar XJ6 3.2 16.4, 30.7, 23.3
Jaguar XJ6 4.0 Sport 16.8, 28, 22.4
4.0 Supercharged 14.8, 28.2, 21.1

And is the Jaguar really any more complicated - seems to me it has the same systems - as the Xantia V6 has most of those going at the time + the hydraulics.

Cost of repairs - get a quote for changing a V6 cambelt.

Mini`s have more character than almost any other cars on the road i.m.h.o, ditto the Moggie Minor.
In fact when I owned an old Mini 1000 a few years back every journey in it was a laugh and how many people can say that about their daily runner?
Vauxhall apologist.
