MY 16 VALVE PROJECT PART 2

Post by thanuttiscotsman »

hi there,
the next lot of work i did was changing the bonnet and the front bumper. i lost a few pics of the bumper change but you can still see the transformation.

this is the old bonnet off the car

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/357/ ... nx1.th.jpg

next i whipped the new bonnet on

http://img145.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... tonkz7.jpg http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/7943 ... kz7.th.jpg

then i de-badged it filled the holes and rubbed it down. i also drilled holes for my water skooshers. i have installed normal ones because they actually work!!

http://img233.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... filyv2.jpg http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/6728 ... yv2.th.jpg

i have since then primed over the badge area.

then next i decided to change the front bumper, this part turned out to be a bigger job than i thought, because when i took the bumper off i found alot of corosion some pretty bad.

http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/5306 ... ji8.th.jpg

http://img420.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... ionxn4.jpg
http://img420.imageshack.us/img420/8789 ... xn4.th.jpg

http://img316.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... endin7.jpg http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/5905 ... in7.th.jpg

so when i found this i got out some rust eater, a chisle, a hammer and a drill with wire brush. after alot of waiting smacking and whacking i got the rust off. so i then primed the area's and after sprayed over them with citroen silver.

http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/976/ ... db8.th.jpg

http://img182.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... yedcl9.jpg
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/3135 ... cl9.th.jpg

i also found it on the bumper mounts so i sanded that primed it and sprayed it.

http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/6745 ... zd9.th.jpg

http://img316.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... medyy4.jpg
http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/5060 ... yy4.th.jpg

the corosion repairs aren't permenant just to keep it from rusting till the rust removal and welding part of the project is reached. so next i went about inspecting my old and new front bumpers.

http://img159.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... herok6.jpg
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/1977 ... ok6.th.jpg

unfortunatly found this problem. you can also see the middle bumper grill is gone. previous owner had removed it and filled the holes.

http://img159.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... peraj4.jpg
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/1842 ... aj4.th.jpg

so i was left to make one good bumper from the 2. so i started disecting the old one for parts. carefully with a chisle and stanley like knife i popped this out

http://img417.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... dbusg2.jpg
http://img417.imageshack.us/img417/4250 ... sg2.th.jpg

i was very rough after being painted multiple times in the past without being rubbed down. it wasnt going to fit in in its new home so i gave it a good rub down then painted it with 2 layers of silver paint as my primer ran out on the rust.

http://img159.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... tayqm1.jpg
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/7479 ... qm1.th.jpg

now she almost looks like new

http://img243.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... oatxl6.jpg
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/5531 ... xl6.th.jpg

then i got me some of this

http://img159.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... iteen6.jpg
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/6897 ... en6.th.jpg

and popped the newly painted tow eye cover in place

http://img243.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... arary0.jpg
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/2559 ... ry0.th.jpg

while that dried i put a new clip onand drilled holes for my new cool fogs.

http://img159.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... ponpj7.jpg
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/3986 ... pj7.th.jpg

http://img517.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... olehh8.jpg
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/5172 ... hh8.th.jpg

i then mounted the fogs

http://img159.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... einvd6.jpg
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/1900 ... vd6.th.jpg

so with the new front bumper half finnished i then popped the filler out and put the bumper grill from my old bumper in

http://img243.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... nniwb6.jpg
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/521/ ... wb6.th.jpg

http://img243.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... oonbe2.jpg
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/994/ ... be2.th.jpg

i then resprayed the black plastic airduct that goes between the bumper and bonnet

http://img243.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... yedor1.jpg
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/2433 ... or1.th.jpg

with numberplate mounted the new front bumper went on followed by the airduct

http://img505.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... ronio8.jpg
http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/4097 ... io8.th.jpg

http://img505.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... tinzj4.jpg
http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/4668 ... zj4.th.jpg

then i wired up the fogs to check there were working. you can judge that for yourself

http://img505.imageshack.us/my.phpimage ... sonfq7.jpg
http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/8202 ... fq7.th.jpg

lastly for this post just a pic of the new front end.
