BX 4x4 on ebay

Post by mat_fenwick »

Check out http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... RK:MEWA:IT
It looks to be a very nice example from the description but I don't imagine he'll have many takers...

Are they reall y that much trouble?

I've been told in the past to walk away from a 4x4 BX. Do they deserve the reputation? Why?

Well, in the description for the car:

"A new clutch," well that's a good thing, as the clutch on these makes a Xantia TD look easy, and there were quite a lot of reports of folk talking 2 or 3 days to replace the clutch and then finding there was no drive at all afterwards
" The spline shaft and transfer box was replaced 1500 miles ago." The real achilles heal of the system - it just wasn't man enough for the job and wears out. With alarmingly expensive regularity. I saw replacements quoted at £1500 a couple of years ago - main dealer only obviously!

Oh, and the exhaust is model specifc, dealer only, and £500.

They're not really a practical proposition for an everyday car for lots of miles, as they're just too fragile, and the parts are too expensive.

Still, if I had some money burning a hole in my pocket and somewhere to keep it, I'd love to have one for a weekend car / getting about when it snows!
I NEED a BX TD.

Then he did you a favour. Why buy a brittle car?
Love BXs as we do, none of us is daft enough to take one of these on; (quiet at the back there Cavmad...)

I've wanted one since 1990.

I know this car well but like i said i turned it down because of the price he wants.

I would have bought it had it been much cheaper just to fulfil the dream!

Not Me, I have heard the noise they make, its a kind of ZZZZZZZZZZZZT then nothing, the splines in question are really shallow, almost smooth to begin with.

BX 4x4

Post by Barnsley BXer »

I guess I must be lucky, cos my 4x4 has 160k on the clock with no transmission problems. It did have a new clutch in at 100k(fitted by ABCZXM at Lincoln.John only charged me an arm as opposed to the usual arm and a leg :D A few years ago I broke a write off 4x4 and have all the oily bits spare. It was a fantastic car and I only took it off the road cos I was doing more miles than Captain Kirk at the time and I didn't want to push it any further. With a bit of luck it will be back on the road next year, back to it's former glory(it won best BX at the 1998 CCC national)
