Headlight protectors

I know opinions are divided on these, but I do like them, and I welcome that added layer of security when driving in the dark in these conditions. So long as I fit more powerful bulbs to penetrate that extra layer too

Does anybody have a set of these I could buy? PM me if you do - and give me an idea on price, please.

I agree and like them mysel, daft thing is they normally fetch second hand more than you buy 2 new headlights for, the last pair on ebay fecthed pver £30!

I did have some Phil, one may be cracked slightly but still perfectly useable. I`ll check over the weekend and let you know. If you`ve not herad from me by Sunday afternoon drop me a pm and remind me please!

You used to be able to buy headlamp repair tape which was a clear thickish tape to be stuck over holes in headlamp glass to keep the water out - and might provide a slight cushion to stones.

Personally I would never have them - valuing every tiny bit of light I can get. My guess is you will loose 10% for every surface.

Eurocarparts list them new for £25 + VAT but they seem to be out of stock. Could be GSF have some?

They`re perfectly good in use Jeremy as long as they are cleaned regulary which is very easy to do. I drive up two especially dark roads on the way/way back to work and never noticed any drop in brightness.

I'm on the lookout for a nearside one because earlier in the year it got killed in the line of duty...

Smashed to smithereens by a stone kicked up on the motorway. Headlight unharmed.

Better to have even a cracked one than a broken light - that's the principle I work on.

Just like BX sunroof non-seals.... perhaps a BX could be persuaded to grow a green-top like the garden centre I once visited in Walton-on-Thames which sported a grass roof.

I wonder if you could make your own from acrylic sheet (perspex) which is readily available from DIY shops, cut to size and bent if necessary using a heat gun?

DIY headlamp covers are an awful idea and NOT cool ,

PLEASE do not be tempted to fit them as I will be very embarassed on your behalf.

But DIY foglight protectors are a good idea (as fitted to the black GTi I used to have BTW Ian are they still on it?)
