Started life as 19TRi it seems, bearing in mind looking at the engine its may be the earlier type 65bhp diesel, you can tell by the type of air intake/filter. Also hes done the old trick of chucking a bucket of water over it to make it shine! Cheeky!

Yeah thats the round port engine IIRC. That'll be a bit sluggish I'd have thought, theres quite a different between round and square in terms of throttle response.
Rare interior though

It is - TRi was basically a GTi Estate complete with 125 BHP 8 valve GTi engine.
Interesting you should mention the throttle response of the round port engines - I recall driving a (B) reg 1.9D many years ago for a while - and the thing must have had an enormous flywheel or something as I reached the conclusion the only way to move out rapidly at roundabouts was to stick it in 2nd as soon as it was rolling as the response in first was so slow it seemed to take for ever for the revs to rise.
Pleasant enough car - just not what I wanted at the time and probably put me off a bit.

Just bosh the square port head on it. I think it jumps from about 65bhp to 70bhp. Dizzy figures
To be fair though, the estate I'm driving is pokey enough and thats one of the first square port engines. Its not quick by any means, but it always makes an effort as soon as you do. It can do 100mph, if you give it a long enough run

I've not come across one of these with a HG problem yet.
Wonder what the reserve is.
Funny you should say that, I have today just removed a 1994 round port 1.9d engine from a ZX... buggered...
Not to long ago I'd bought a Pug 309 1.9d, square port in STUNNING running order.. It was that good I decided to hang on to it...
Well its come to use.. It is a cracking unit, so hopefully should make the customer VERY pleased, shes's not interested in how fast or quick, as long as it gets to work and back
Check this out for pressure!!

So hopefully a good old square port unit should sort that out!

Ah yes, it`s been `modified` hasn`t it?
Ken, I`d forgotten about the 1.7 n/a engine. Mine was fantastic, very lively and mint on juice too.
Appreciate what Kithc and Tim have said ref `perofrmance but thinking about it you`re hardly likely to buy this car as a speed machine anyhow so maybe it`ll be a cheap little plodder for someone?

Vauxhall apologist.
Urghh
Thats defentaly a 1.7 unit in that BX... Had 3 visas, all with those inlets and sill rocker covers...
Well worth it if it was a 1.9d, but a 1.7 in an estate... 60bhp, as opposed to 65 bhp.. Fair enough in a Hatch, but you can load an estate up more..
Defenatly a plodder, who does no more then 70mph, and has all day to drive..
Rather put the TD unit from the BX TZD I have for sale in it
