After a diesel one that consumption must come as a nasty shock
Still its a nice clean one, someone should give it a home.

Purchase price can be a lot higher with a diesel - but the saving in fuel will amount to around £100 per 1,000 miles. Makes you think.

I have done seven thousand miles since July, in a £700 Xantia 8) WBM uses the BX now so its mileage is minimal, She could run one of the carby petrol ones and hardly notice a thing :)

Yeah I'd say Phils on the money there.

If I put £30 into the estate, I'd get 300miles out of it every time. If I put the same amount into the 16v and give it average effort on the loud pedal it'll do about 200miles, if not a couple more.
Even though petrol is cheaper, the saving between the two for me is nearly £100, maybe £90 or so.
Couldn't comment on the 19TZS auto....the 16TRS auto I had was dire for economy (far worse than the 16v) BUT.....I'm told the 19 is actually better due to the fact it has enough grunt to keep an auto box spinning, unlike the 16.

But if it was a choice of save nearly £10 or drive the 16v.....theres no contest! Its only money

On the topic.....could I suggest sticking the car in CCC mag Aaron? Its a rare colour, and a fairly rare model....nice one a that. I'm sure its now looking much tidier than in that picture, you might find a new home for it there?

I can't do maths! But I guess with a petrol auto in everyday use you're going to be talking 22 mpg around town and stuff - long trips more, but a diesel will give you between 40 and 50...

On my mileage that is damn near £2,000 a year. I'd have to have something a bit better than a BX to suffer that. It puts my proposed £2000 rebuild plan in perspective. Against a petrol car I have saved it twice already!

Incredebly, if you lived in France, the difference would be truly staggering - maybe the difference between spending £70 in diesel per 1000 miles and spending probably around £180 in good 'ol '95' per 1000 miles. It is not unrealistic to assume that for your average driver driving a diesel in France could save £1,400 in fuel per year... No wonder second hand diesel cars fetch such good money there.

Having said that I enjoy driving both petrol and diesel - different horses for different courses... but if I am doing a long trip - it's a bit of a no-brainer.

I've made Aaron an offer on the car.

As I've never driven a diesel, won't notice the difference in economy (one way of thinking about it, anyway! ), and an auto should be nice for the majority of driving I do, plus maybe The Management would like to get involved - she only likes autos really...

Couple of things that maybe you guys can help me with:

If Aaron goes ahead & sells me the car, it'll be the first car (except the new Mini I learned to drive in) I'll have driven that's FWD. Got a Smart for 'the wife' & a '68 Triumph that's been my daily driver, plus a non-working Volvo 360 2ltr at the mo - what will be different about driving a FWD?

Secondly, as a matter of interest, shouldn't this car, as a TZS, have different bumpers, complete with foglights? Think Aaron mentioned somewhere that he's changed the bumpers earlier in the year, wouldn't mind the extra lighting capacity that fogs give. Also would get the car looking more original...

Thirdly, I'm based near Windsor in Berkshire. Who's around this kinda area? Would be good to know who's around - I will be heading down to the Southampton area fairly often in 2007. Might occasionally need advice/help with the car - if Aaron says yes - plus it would be good to have recommendations for specialists in the area.

Just hoping I get a nice reply now - all excited!!!
