Funny thing, life.
I was saying to Stewart that I would like to start reconditioning various parts, and my starter engine packs up and gives me the opportunity to do just that.
On Saturday I was thinking that it would be worth doing a big recondition, and here Tom is doing exactly that.
I'm actually quite turned on at the thought of making the car better than new. Does that make me sad? a pervert? both?
Keep us updated Tom

Yes, I had those part numbers already to hand before I contacted them. Otherwise they ask me for the car registration number and then they seem to come up against a brick wall. The last time I got something I supplied the number and it was ordered in but I had to pay for it up front. I think you should be ok if you ask them to check availability against the part numbers and then take it from there.

When I did my h/g I removed radiator, undid top mount after resting sump on a wooden block and used a spanish windlass round a bracket on head and the slam panel to pull engine forward. I could then "easily" get at manifolds! (I say I, but in truth my friend is an aircraft mechanic and I make the tea and hold things!) Martynjeremy wrote:Just thinking about it -- when I had the top mount off to do the cambelt the engine tipped back with some determination. Angled sump doesn't help but I don't think I could have pulled it forward if I had tried - so a bit of ingenuity may be needed.

Well, ECP have let me down on the driveshaft:
2 weeks ago. We've got 'em. £35.
1 week ago. We need to do it on special order. 5 days, £58.
Yesterday. We can't get it.
One of their new rear brake pipes had been in a nasty accident before it got to me so the calipers won't be done this weekend and the driveshaft nut just wouldn't come undone so I changed all the spheres and am sulking. Tomorrow may be easier but today I can't quite raise the enthusiasm!
