Temp Gauge fitting

Post by toddao »

Hello,
read the feature about fitting a temp gauge. I've got a Mk.1 diesel with the Buck Rogers binnacle , bathroom scales tacho etc. How would the installation differ and who is 'Tim' the man with the gauges? Danke

The installation would be just about identical apart from where you decide to put the instrument, mine are in plastic pods stuck on to the side of the dash (my car is a MK2) I got my guages from these people but I expect you will find some closer

Installation on a Mk 1 will be exactly the same.

TIM is a manufacturer of gauges -

All seem to be supplied with a fascia fastening bar that doesn't fit - or at least the 2 I have bought have.

I got my instrument from "TIM".

On my MkI, I put the instrument onto the plastic side cover for the steering wheel. There is some free space where it's always in my view and it's not in the way, anyhow.

Yeah, that is me wheels! It's not the original colour I must confess. It belonged to a guy who ran a spray-shop. We are trying to work out what the colour is cos we need to do some minor repair on rear arch. A Lambourghini yellow is close apparently! Already mixed up one bogus colour!
He sprayed it up as an advert for his shop - can still see the outline of the decals on the sides with all the worded adverts in Deutsch! He ran into trouble ( bankruptcy) plus these old diesels are heavily taxed in D and it sat in his factory til rescued by a local citroen freak ( an old SM racing driver/mechanic). I can't deal with SMs but this came up. Spent many cold nights with my friend in his disused petrol station (!!!!) getting it sorted. Goes well now.Bring it to Uk in summer for 25th party I hope.
Love the club, esp :especially in exile here in D. Cheers! Any installation photos of temp gauge on Mk.1 apprecited!

Aha, thought it was a rare colour, u could have a unique car....

I am getting some extra guages fitted to my car this week so i can take some pictures to see if that helps, did u want ones to show whereabouts the wiring goes & also where the sender unit is fitted? Mine is a mk2 though, so may be quite different, but at least that will give u some ideas?

If you do a search under the technical section there has been a previous thread on this same subject.

Would be good to see lamborghini yellow over for the 25th anniversary, is it a he or a she & whats its name (i know a bit sad, but then again we are driving strange cars compared to most).

I'd be happy with a yellow one - anything is better than white - and our ZX is white as well!

I put mu temeprature gauge in a pod on the right side of the binnacle - as its quite easy to see there and is not conflicting with the ventilation. This may not be convenient on a MK 1.

Yeah, colour is great- really suits the lines. Was what decided it for me, plus the Lego controls which nearly all work now after laying on of hands! I do like the design but my journey with the innards is just beginning. Accumulator sphere first.
Was originally white but this colour really creates an emotional response in me - reminds me of going to France in the 80s! Thanks for all gauge ideas - I will decide a suitable place for it. Ideally need an L.E.D unit in keeping with the futuristic intentions of the design. Any available?

How about something like this for example -

not for the feint hearted.

That looks good. Seems that it can't be back-lit though, that's where LEDs are useful - visable in dark and sunlight. What were Citroen thinking when they omitted a temp gauge - was this a style decision?

No, it wasn't style decision, it was Mr Peugeot doing some bean-counting........
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.
