Wanted 1.9 Diesel manual gearbox

Post by BCXM »

If my 19 D auto's box turns out to be completly kaput has anyone got a manual box for sale?? I only have a petrol 19 autobox which i've been told won't go on the diesel, so I may have to convert to manual in order to keep the car...

Many thanks

Cheers for the info Doc (it was you who told me that in the first place)

Will it be dangerously slow or just plain painfully slow?

Thanks for the info much appreciated

My mate has a diesel auto box (still in the car) he might be tempted to part with it for the right offer.

It wont be danerously slow, but I would imagine, assuming the engine will red-line pulling top gear, that you'd be looking at no more than 82mph flat out. The likelyhood of the engine being able to pull top revs is very remote, and it would be painfully bad on fuel and wear the engine out very fast if long distance / speed was required. It'd just be a really unpleasent car to drive....

Alas, thus far I have failed to fall over a N/A box so I guess I dont have one! Sorry!
Although there seems to be plenty of offers above!

Cheers

I also have a 1.9D manual gearbox available that you're welcome to if you can collect it, but I fear you will need a fair bit more than just the box for a conversion to manual.

There's all the linkages, gear lever, plastic trim, different top on the injection pump etc.etc.etc. would probably be far easier and cheaper just to buy a 1.9D Manual BX.

Not to mention pedal box, clutch cable etc. Yeah, it's a fair point David.

Fair bit of work involved....

And while we're listing different bits, you'd need a clutch too, and I believe the flywheel is different.

Auto's dont have a flywheel, they have a flexi-plate, so yeah, it would be EXTREMLEY entertaining trying to fit a clutch to that!!!!

The guy who works for me has done it before...The reason why I'd keep this car is that it has had no previous owners meticulosly maintained and has aircon fitted...My mechanic hates autos and when the BX was relativly new used to convert auto to manual quite a bit..

We'll see.. I haven't run the car up or even collected it yet, plus I have all the bits lined up I just don't have a manual gearbox.
