Diesel estate wanted

Post by paulwitchard »

Wanted diesel estate not particular which model.
Prefer one in good mechanical condition, not worried if its a bit cosmetically challenged - our tin of car polish dates from when the BX first came out and is still over half full.
We're in Normandy where 2nd hand cars fetch eye watering (if you're buying) or mouthwatering (if you're selling) prices, and the mud / cow muck lies deep and thick - so worth getting a ferry to get a cheaper one.
If someone's got a LHD one lying about so much the better, but I gave up beleiving in miracles a long time ago.
Paul in Normandy - BX 1992 Millesme 1.9D, 1999 Peugeot 806 2.1 TD (the Bus) - gone bang on the M25, in a scrapyard somewhere in the SE of England, 1985 Visa Decouvrable, 1990 Land Rover 110TD (Great Uncle Bulgaria),1999 Isuzu Trooper, 1991 Hymer motorhome with Peugeot J5TD power, and a shedfull of mopeds!

Hi Paul, welcome to the club. There's a couple of members here with an 'interest' in France both Tom and myself have 'holiday' homes there (shortly (hopefully this year) to be full time in my case. And from the sounds of it Tom's there a lot more than just holidays. My house is in Brittany, just south of St Brieuc. From memory I think Phil Chidlow lived over there for a few years as well.
There are plenty of Bx Estates around but they seem to keep their money as they are so versatile and able to be used for work etc. etc. Don't know if you realised that the internal dimensions of the saloon/hatch and the Est are (almost/exactly) the same apart from height in the boot; so unless you are really looking to put very 'tall' items in the boot you might well get away with the hatch and its subsequent better availability and lower price....probably also had a 'softer' life than the Estate.....a mattter of conjecture perhaps. You won't get a sunroof in the estate either....handy thing in that part of the world.
I've got a LHD 1990 Auto TZD BX which I've got on CT and French assurance. Got a local garage to source a set of LHD H/lamps for me and let them take it to the CT they were able to reassure the tester that if anything needed to be done they were going to do it.
Basically it stays there and so far its never missed a beat. Like you, my area is knee deep in 'merde' most of the time and it saves my other car from a lot of this when we're there.
Mike.
Ps. hope I haven't trodden on anyones toes with the info given re homes and the like.

Just north of Portsmouth so perfect for the ferry to Normandy, and located just 5 miles from a Citroen specialist.

Thanks very much for all the advice etc - I reckon that estates must be like buses they all come along at once - I'm keeping my beady eye on a couple of examples on E bay - I think my bidding finger could be twitching quite soon!
I need an estate because we work here looking after holiday homes www.lbvfrance.com (manche ouest) and an estate is better for lawnmowers etc - we also collect old mopeds and humping them over a large rear sill is no fun.
