Neat car in Guildford. There's a Hurricane down that neck of the woods too. All but one of the BXs I've had originally came from West Heath Garage in Farnborough and were maintained by the same garages/specialists. Now what are the odds of that happening? Anyway, wonder if either of these hail from the same source. (What difference that makes, I don't know!)

Aaaah, another one to go on my list!!
Doesn't it look nice with those ?ZX alloys!
The only worry I have with this one is the last time I drove a BX16 automatic (series 1) it had a cold start niggle, and it once ended up dying on me in the middle of doing a right turn on a busy road - someone had to help me push it round the corner out of the way cos it wouldn't start again (prob with the safety immobiliser in the gearstick). But otherwise a joy to drive, although thirsty.
They say this winter is going to be tres icy, so I'm inclining towards a TD or a 16 that's already had a manual choke conversion. This Hurricane also interests me though...!
Mark.

I have two automatics and both suffer from refusal to start (especially when hot) thanks to the inhibitor system playing up. I had a push button by-pass switch wired in to both and no longer need worry (just watch I'm in 'P' or 'N', of course). But to cut out whilst driving? How does that happen?

The stalling was due to an insufficiently warmed-up engine. The car would sometimes bog down when cold, and of course there's no clutch to dip so you can rev the engine.
In this case the engine spluttered, and I didn't think quickly enough to bung it in neutral, so it died... then refused to restart cos of the inhibitor problem.
BTW did you sell the GTi auto?

I used to get this a lot with my CX C-Matic - and I lived through a winter in eastern France with that, a foot of snow! The stalling was due to an insufficiently warmed-up engine. The car would sometimes bog down when cold, and of course there's no clutch to dip so you can rev the engine.
There's a breather-type arrangement on top of the CX engine which used to come loose; replacing the rubber hose and putting jubilee clips everywhere helped a lot.
The other major cause bad running on that engine was the carb - I have had problems with every Weber I've owned. Taking it apart and cleaning it thoroughly helped, but it really needed a new one.

No, the move I'd hoped would happen didn't and as I'm in a semi-rural area, we need the two BXs. If I do get an estae though, I will sell it early next year. And it'll around 10 months MOT and two or three months tax.
