Arh but notice whats parked in front of the turbo :D

I was looking at a Range Rover 2.5TD last week converted to run on chip fat. Secondhand chip fat.

He had a large heated tank in the boot and fuel lines running through the heater pipes. It als ohad an auto switching divice to change over from diesel for starting and chip fat once it got warm.

Nowt wrong with XM's Tim, get a good one and they are awesome cars, it's what the Xantia tried to be and failed miserably!

I still regret giving up on my S1 21TD Auto, that was undoubtedly the best cruiser I ever had. Never ran it on chip fat though....
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

That explains why my hip hurts!

I take your point though, XM's tend to require a bit more "input" than a BX to keep in fettle, extremley rewarding when they're on song though, mine was like driving a really comfortable old arm chair around, ya know, cardigan, pipe and slippers, archers on radio 4 stylee!! 8)

Ive got my Sd1 for that, most minor jobs on a BX i can manage myself or Mr Fearn helps, the XMs are alot more complicated or at least look it so I will just look for now, Ive never driven one except a shagged 2.1TD auto which would only move about 10mph.

You've really gotta drop this hate of the Xantia Doc

It's not trying to be an XM at all. It has similarly shaped headlamps, if thats what you mean.

Xantia's a bland eurobox......XM is a weird looking executive wedge. The Xantia was aimed at Ford's new Sierra, Renault's new 21 and Vauxhall's new Cavalier. They're all dull, cheap and rather unremarkable. But the Xantia manages to have the best tractor engine, and it's the smoothest riding, so thats why I got it

Agreed there Kitch, they are rather conservative compared to the BX but the quality and ride is better but not so much fun to drive, and my god ar they cheap (except mine of course which should be gold plated for how much ive spent on it!)

Id like a drive in an XM one day. Ive driven I Xantia 1.8 petrol and was stunned by the ride, handling, brakes and steering. It is leap years ahead of the BX behind the wheel, but it really is just too bland, and after the "good drive" factor has worn off, probably not as fun as an every day car. If I wanted a bangernomics car for reliable cross country stints I would buy a Xantia TD.

Never gona happen mate. EVER!

Ever changed a pull clutch in a D12 Xanty?? No, well, I assure it's the wan%est job ever in the history of wan% jobs.

Yes, the headlamps are a similar shape to the XM, but so is the whole car! Look at the swage line over the rear of the car, the front wings from the side, the whole thing is a scaled down blurred edged XM.

The XM is an incredible car to drive, the last "proper" Citroën IMO.
The Xantia replaced the BX, the BX may be made of sellotape and not as refined as a Xantia, but the BX IS a drivers car, as is the XM, the Xantia is a computer designed cop-out to the masses for blandness and "conformity".

I have nothing against anyone liking Xanty's, fair play to you! But I'd rather power sand my own ar$e than have one.
The only Xantia worth considering is the V6 or the Activa.
Yeah sure, they'll get from A to B, and may be more "interesting" than the competition at the time, but I dont want a car to get me from A to B with nil fuss, I want a car I can "feel", a car that gives you feedback, a car that is rewarding to drive, that puts a smile on your face everytime you get in it. Every BX and XM I've had does that, the Xantia.....does not.

Wow, I'm starting to sound like Tom!!!
Anyway rant over.... Resume hostilities!

Style wise, I'd say the Xantia was based on the XM, but took a lot of influence from the Vauxhall Calibra, which was pretty sexy by all accounts when it came out (not my cup of tea by the way). Back on topic: Those veg converted BX's better have the Bosch pumps otherwise they'll be cream crackered. I tried it once and the car actually drove very well, and was quieter and smoother, but it stank! I've smelt several cars go by running on it recently. Its not a bad idea at all, and although the smell is horrid, it doesn't smell toxic like diesel.
