Jetronic Issue

Post by Ian_Fearn »

My 4x4 which has the Jetronic fuel injection system really cant seem to work itself out at idle.

Its constantly hunting between about 500 and 1000rpm

I'm assuming that the air metering device is probably shagged.

Does anybody have one for sale?

On the throttle positioning switch housing

It should be near the butterfly somewhere. With the engine off, twist the butterfly so the throttle is open. When you close it again, do it slowly. You should hear a quiet click like a switch. If you don't, it needs adjusting so it clicks when the throttle is released, otherwise the ECU doesn't know when to idle. Its round the back of the throttle body on a 16v, little black thing.

That said, 16v's are Motronic obviously. Is Jetronic the completely mechanical one? I've never worked on one, so its possible it doesn't have it :?:

K jetronic is the mechanical one as used by some Porsches and VW's. The electronic one is L Jetronic etc as used by Jaguar (with Lucas Labels!) and everyone else. As far as I know K was never used on BX or subsequent Citroens but may have been used on some CX.

Incidentally I believe L jetronic may have been a Bendix design - now is this the same Bendix who made washing machines?

After a bit of light digging mines got the LE3 Jetronic.

The general concencus is to take all to bits and thoroughly clean it up. Hopefully i'll get reasonable results. We shall see.

There is a warm up valve shown on those web pages that says it should operate for 30secs.

Mine stays at around 1600rpm for quite a while before it goes down.

Could this be worn out or stuck maybe?
