Gris Renard....

Post by Kitch »

I'm informed this translates as "Fox Grey."

Anyone heard of that before? Apparently its the colour of the 16RS I just acquired. I'm trying to find the official name for the colour of both that, and the GT my dad has.

Well Alex (Capri) Said it translates as Fox Grey, but I assumed it wasn't actually called that because its such a dumb name for a colour.

I've heard of 'Silver Fox' as a colour.

No dafter than 'Daytona Yellow' is it?

Reynard the Fox

Always a victim in the trad folk scene.
Fairport Convention wrote:Ye gentlemen of high renown, come listen unto me
That takes delight in fox hunting by every degree
A story i will tell to you, concerning of a fox
Near royston woods and mountains high and over stony rocks

Bold reynard, being in his hole and hearing of these hounds
Which made him for to prick up his ears and tread upon the ground
``methinks me hears some jubal hounds a-pressing upon the life
Before that they should come to me, i'll tread upon the ground''

We hunted for four hours or more through parishes sixteen
We hunted for four hours or more and came by parkworth green
``oh, if you'll only spare my life, i promise and fulfil
To touch no more your feathered fowl or lambs on yonder hill''

Bold reynard, spent and out of breath and treading on this ground
Thinking he must give up his life before these jubal hounds
``so here's adieu to ducks and geese, likewise to lambs also''
They've got poor reynard by the slabs and will not let them go
Poor bloody fox. Hunted through five hundred years of folk song until Steeleye Span turned the tables in 1989:
Steeleye Span wrote:you can hound me now you've found me,
but i'm far more cunning than you.
i'm a shy fox, i'm a sly fox,
and i'll teach you a lesson or two.
i'll run you through the hawthorn .hedge,
and tear your dogs to shreds
i'll lead you from the open fields,
into the flower beds.
i'll lead you from the open fields,
into the nearest town.
and take you to my hunting ground.

run, run, i won't give in,
run, run, i'll never give in.
run, run, run, i won't give in,
run, run, run, i'll never give in.

you can hound me now you've found me,
but i'm far more cunning than you.
i'm a brown fox, i'm a town fox,
and i'll teach you a lesson or two.
i'll introduce electric fence,
to every horse and hound.
and watch the horses suffering,
upon the stoney ground.
i'll lead you from the open fields,
into the nearest town.
and take you to my hunting ground.

run, run, i won't give in,
run, run, i'll never give in.
run, run, run, i won't give in,
run, run, run, i'll never give in.
Folk geek? Oh yeah.

Philip, I only just spotted that you've transplanted the headlights from the "gris renard BX" into the gray fox's eyes. Clever !

And your avatar is brilliant too Philip. In fact it reminds me: er indoors bought me a box set of Sgt Bilko dvds which I must get round to watching.

Let the hunters be hunted I say. I'd shoot the lot of them.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Arrogant stuck up fuckwits the lot of 'em  Have often thought how satisfying it would be to give them 20 mins head start and then set some really vicious dogs after them  Unfortunately, my local supports the hunt which taints my Speckeled Hen somewhat...

That's what I've always thought. Smear the fuckers in Pedigree Chum and give them a 2 minute headstart before releasing the hounds.
Animal lovers my arse.
