Dark Blue 'L' Reg. TXD Estate.

Post by st gilles »

Just spotted it in my driveway!
Its my new acquisition from Ken.....its taken a long time and Ken has been very patient as a few dates have arrived and slipped (I think thats what they say nowadays).
Anyway finally got all the brain cells working and hopped on a National Express coach to Wakefield where Ken duly obliged and picked me up from the Coach Stn. Short ride later (in Kens lovely XM Est) and there she was.....very very nice and drove like a 4 year old let alone a 14 year old...all credit to Ken's skills here as this car as I can remember from the original thread needed a lot of TLC and quite a few parts....not any more I can tell you. Anyway after a smashing cuppa and a biscuit it was time for me to begin the 180 mile journey home.
Arrived home 3 1/2 hours later having kept a (where possible due to road and weather conditions) steady 65 - 70 without incident...car runs like a dream, got that lovely ride which I've been missing from day to day, very thrifty; started with just over a 1/4 of a tank and the fuel lights still not on (and with a bosch pump as well). Thanks Ken, both for the car , the patience and the 'vittuls'. Hope to post some pics, as soon as I can work out how you make the images smaller.

I'm glad to hear you both like your new motors. I have an interest in both these, as I saved them from a visit to the breakers.

It will be interesting to see how many more years life is in these cars.

Ken..I've a good deal of gratitude to you for a bl**dy good job in GRX. I've now covered 700 miles+ and first figures looks well in excess of 50mpg. Don't mind if it's a bit les, but 50+ is really sweet.

I read the other day Smart cars - those eco friendly crap heaps, do just 35 mpg in town. I couldn't get my teddy bear in one of those, let alone a dog!

Maybe I'm doing a bit better than Phillip on the mpg because of where I live.

Whatever the mpg I'm just delighted to be back in a 'real'car, familiar and friendly and...bloody lovely.

good mpg is just one of the few benefit of living out in the styx. No street lights, but we pay for them. No mains sewerage, but we pay for it (there's some sort of outfit at the bottom of a neighbours garden.) No buses - Dr Beeching was a lad when this village last saw a bus! Near pub nearly 7 miles away - near church 200 yards, nearest supermarket is 25 miles away.

There are compensations..I'll think of them and post in a minute
