You need to give Sue a stiff talking to mate, XM's are awesome awesome cars. I'd withhold sex for two weeks!

Dont live anywhere near it, but as Tim said, it's been for sale for a long time. Too much money I reckon...

I noticed that Ken but was hoping it was a reflection. Have given the missus a list of questions to ask. Will see what the response is as i'm off out for the rest of the day.

Am more than happy to pay 495 if its a decent car.

Tim, may take you up on your offer.

Right, today we drove all the way upto some strange place up north to look at this diesel auto.

In all honesty in was a mess.

Very little seemed to work. The speedo, fuel gauge, the starter has been rewired using 3 cheap electrical switches, the interior was covered in mold, the exhaust was hanging off, one of the injectors was leaking, the front inner wing was rotten BUT to top it all off the gearbox gave you the most almighty thump in the back when it changed down a gear.

I personally could not believe how slow it was either. I was very suspicious of the mileage too (bearing in mind the speedo was broke). It was showing 114k but in 2003 it had a cambelt change at 112k. From 2000 to 2003 it covered over 50k.

I declined to make an offer.

Another over optimistic dealer then Ian? A couple of small faults are acceptable but that sounds like a pile of junk to me.

When i rang the guy said there was NO bodywork damage.

The front door had a big crease and every panel had a ding. Each bumper corner was scuffed, the radio had been pulled out and wires cut. Some more wires were hanging out the dash too.

BUT i just couldnt get over UNBELIEVABLY SLOW it was!

In which case, there was something else wrong with it. Having driven Stuart's Diesel Auto, I thought it was surprisingly sprightly. Was expecting it to be a slug, but it was all-but as fast as a Diesel Manual. I think the fact that it's a 4-speed box helps, as it means the gaps between gears aren't enormous.

Plus, everything on his works.

You've probably just been in a duffer. Maybe thats why the previous owner got rid?

Also my Mums was dead sluggish when we got it, but a quick adjustment of the kickdown cable and throttle cable and it's fine.

You give up too easy :?

The words Horse, Flogging and Dead come to mind Ian. Blasphemy it might be but maybe there isn't a BX to fit your bill? Alternatively stop fannying about and get old ELF a new motor and stuff the economy.

Well......
If you're used to a GTi any diesel will feel slow.
When my TD was N/A I'd drive it round for a bit and think "this is actually quite fast", then I'd do a stint in the valver and think "jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus I'm going to lose my licence", then I'd get back in the diesel and think the brakes had stuck on!

Dont notice so much now, but then the TD is tuned a bit...

Keep ELF, rebuild engine, job done.
