garage in Mid Wales?

Post by RichardE »

Does anyone know of a bx friendly garage that they can recommend in Mid Wales? I know I live in London ,but I'm originally from Nr Welshpool and I have always tried to get any work done on my cars whilst on a trip home.anywhere within a 30-35 mile radius of Welshpool would be great. Also does anyone have any experience good or bad of French car based in Clapham? My usual garage has mysteriously suddenly closed and the MOT is due next week and thought I'd give them a go.I have to say they were very decent when I went in the other day .. anyways car is booked in for Thurs so I guess we'll see hey...

Richard, I'd recommend the following:

Nip into Welsh Border Motor Spares (Henfaes Lane) for a start and speak to Kev (the owner). Top bloke and has a lot of contacts around the area. Also a few hundred yards past him there's a lad with a unit called Phil who does rally cars and general servicing who's a nice lad with a good reputation.

In Newtown try Andy at Dingle Garage (also a scrap yard which used to have a lot of older cars in). He's just of the Dolfor road. Iirc you go into Newtown from Welshpool and turn left at the lights onto the A483 where the Honda garage is and head as if you're going towards Llandrindod Wells. After about 1/2-3/4 mile there is a sharp right turn in the road and a narrow lane straight ahead. Take this lane and after just a couple of hundred yards you'll come to the entrance of Andy's place. Andy is one of the nicest people you could hope to meet by the way.

There's also the garage on the road through Llanfair Careinion(sp?), I think the owner's name is John or Jim. Does a lot of mechanical and bodywork, it's part of the petrol station you can't miss it.

Bear in mind it's probably at least 6 years since I was down that way but I'm sure Welsh Border Motor Spares, the garage at Llanfair and Dingle garage cum scrapyard are still going.

Oh, in Welshpool itself as you head towards the bypass and the new(sih) industrial estate there was a repair garage at the side of the petrol station, think the fellas name is Delroy.

Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the info Cavmad very helpful I know where all those locatons are except The Dingle garage. I know the road well but never knew about that and will definately go see next time I'm up sounds interesting I love a good scrap yard :) See I was planning on using the same guy that me and my Dad used on that small comercial estate opposite Focus Do it all in Newtown but went there last time I was up and the unit was empty.Hence me being at a bit of a loss as to where to take it should it need anything complicated doing....especially when everything in London is at least double the price !!

Doc if you like the monster check out youtube They have some great monster vids !:) :) :)

I take it you mean Newtown Car Breakers Breakers, Lion Works, Pool road? Talking to a lad on another forum a few months back who said they've long I'm afraid.

Another couple within your preferred distance are Control Techniques(?) a Citroen specialists who are kind of between Oswestry and Wrexham, about 2 miles from the A483. Stewart (Oily) from this forum will know how to get there better than me and their correct name.

In Oswestry itself there are a load of places, reckon Denny's garage (in the centre of Oswestry) is about the best. Not cheap but does excellent work, Pete is the fella you want to speak to there.

Finally there's Keith Davis, down the back lanes between Chester and Wrexham. Certainly not cheap but sure knows his Citroens, he's been a specialist for light years now.

Here you go Richard, the one I mentioned between Oswestry and Wrexham is called Installation Techniques I think. Anyhow, here's the link from the BXClub homepage...

Indeed they have, and plenty of my favourite, The Swedish Chef!

The Muppet Show was probably the finest bit of telly ever. Shame it bit the dust...
