Not too sure, but I believe that the HP pump on a valver is a different one to those on a regular 16.
I think there were 3 different pumps used, which are not strictly interchangeable (without buggering about swapping the pulleys, etc). Probably even got different innards too!
I'd be VERY interested to know why he's breaking it........looks a cracker bodywise in the pics!

Right. Ive been to see said car. The storey has changed and now its the fuel pump that seized. I can sort of see why the two would get confused/or, it wouldnt matter as either prevents them from lifting it. The bodywork is 100% dent free, and the engine and bay extremely clean. There were one or two tiny spots of rust peeping out of the bodykit, but it looked like one of the cleaner ones (although massively in need of a wash and polish). The interior was mint but badly needed a clean. It has definately sat for I would say over a year. Seriously, body wise, great. 125,000 miles on the clock. The only other damage I could see was a broken plastic shroud below the steering wheel. I said I would put in a good word on here as it is a genuinly nice one, but he wants more than what its worth. £400. Ive always wanted a 16V but on thinking about it all on the way home, the last thing I need to worry about is another car at the moment. I think it was originally bought as a non runner for a 205 project. It NEEDS saving!

Yeah. I did say IF I were to buy it id be looking to spend £300 max really, and £350 if it were otherwise going to a 205. He said he would think about it and so did I. Im not sure whether that leaves a possible outcome does it lol? Thing is, this car is nicer than the 205 it will go into as the average 205 isnt in this good condition. I didnt want to explain that it was slightly above market value as I respect people's feelings about what their cars are worth, and it should be worth that really. Its purely the risk element that puts me off. Chances are, a new fuel pump, service and a brake pad or two it will be MOTable, and with Tax and MOT this car would be worth £800-£900 I reckon. But seeing as the engine cant be started, and the problem was only diagosed by a quick AA man visit, and other possible problems such as a totally wrecked engine, you could end up spending a lot on it. I would edge towards it being very sound, but I dont have money to gamble with at the moment.

I would have thought he would struggle to get £400 for it, if it was bought just for the engine; seeing as they would be taking more of a gamble than a BXer who is after the whole car.
Good luck if anyone goes for it - may be worth taking along a can of easy start - that way the engine can at least be started (although it will sound rough) and it would prove the ignition/suspension/oil pressure etc.

Wont need easy start, the sure fire way to kill any known engine dead.
I'ce got a fuel pump in the boot of mine I keep as a spare.
They are known to fail around 110k - 130k so thats not too surprising TBH.
£400 is a bit steep, but if the shells good, I'd still be tempted, they're getting rarer, and mechanicals are easier to sort than the body.
I paid £300 for mine with MOT, but the car was still FUBAR and took 9 months and ALOT of money to put right....
Thankfully I dont have a spare £400 ATM, otherwise I'd have a white valver in the shed!

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
