Interesting device - but I wonder if its power source is vacuum - which of course is OK on a ZX but not a BX.

This site gives you more info but its connected to the alternator, the battery, the brake lights, a button on the gear lever knob and the clutch pedal

It may well be electrically operated BUT devices of such power seldom are on 12 volt systems and a vacuum bellows is cheap and has a free powersource on most cars.

Just fit the double pulley and vac pump (with frog in it) from an older 405, voila, loads of vac

Mount the switch under the gearstick, on a cam .... and make your own BX C-matic !!! YEAH!

Its interesting you should point that out Ian. Your posts about needing an auto but wanting a TD etc started me thinking about how you could make a general car clutch lighter or automatic... And its already been done. I suppse it is effectively exactly like a C-Matic without the torque converter.

actually it wouldn't be very difficult to make a semi auto unit from a ZF autobox....

Let me have a full S.P when you see these characters please Ian, I have heard of something like this before however the price was c. £1000 mark. Probably a different system altogether.

This system is circa £1000.

Would still prefer a TD auto though.

If only there was some way of doing it for a reasonable price.....

If you could find a Xantia TD auto, it would cost however much the car was.

You could chance your hand with a N/A autobox, we tried that, it lasted 199 miles and blew up!

Touchwood the shiny new box seems fine. Which it should be considering the cost!

If this system for the clutch is £1k, then you could no doubt find a xanty TD auto for less???
