Fair comment Jon, enjoyed reading that. I know we should probably worry about emissions but in a car the age of a BX being honest I'd rather have 'uncomplicated' power without the hassle of fitting more modern engine plus all the bits needed to make it work. I initially thought that this may have been a good replacement for the standard BX motor but from reading the replies it doesn't seem worth the effort.
Vauxhall apologist.

The only possible benefit I could see would be improved fuel economy in normal driving.
Comparing the same bodyshell, a Pug 306, the HDI engine is about 15-20% more economic than the XUD9TE engine, while producing almost exactly the same power.
Wouldn't be worth it in a BX. Now... a 110 version, with an intercooler might be an entirely different prospect.

It is but its a pain to keep in a straight line with huge torque steer.
Thats where the bx wins hands down. I wish i could get that sort of power from the bx but with in being normaly aspirated its very very expensive and hard

Not nto the power game myself, but one of our techhys has a Golf Gti Mk2 with a Mk4 1.8T engine in it which is pumping out something daft like 325bhp!rob-bx16v wrote:glad you see the good side tim, no pun intended. I know the feeling tim. cars are my hobbie and i dont smoke and only drink at the weekends so cars is where a big chunk of my money goes. As for your mates golf it will be fast but a bet they weigh a bit?? ive always gone for cars with a good power to weight ratio. The other problem with the rs is getting it off the line when the boost kicks in
Would still consider having a bx tzd turbo for a daily driver but i think 3 cars is more than enough

Its suprising what you can actualy spend on a car throughout ownership!.
Ive had the bx 16v 7 years now and have recipts for £10,000
and ive had the rst now for 4 years and have recipts for £4,500 and that doesnt even cover the price i paid for the 2 cars
. People who know me always say why have you spent so much money on your cars as they are old and why not have bought a new one instead
The awnsers simple new cars are heavy, ugly, all look the same, cost a packet when they do go wrong due to so many electical bits and sensors every where, servicing costs for many high performance cars eg evo, subaru. With the ford and citroen you can rip em to bits and put them back together in a day
