I don't envy you getting the blooming thing back out of your car though!
Oh, the wife says she'll get it out of the car, while I'm doing the washing-up!!
Surprising what effect buying a new bed can have, innit?

Just to tie-up this thread.....

The engine is now safely positioned in its new home! (On a pallet up the side of our house, covered in a heavy duty plastic bag!)

Important advice for anyone transporting a TD engine in a BX Hatchback!:

Billy & I had difficulty with the necessary height clearance whilst loading the engine, so I pondered the problem overnight, before unloading today.

To gain the extra few inches height clearance to easily hoist the engine out of the boot, I disconnected both tailgate struts and opened the hatch by about an extra 6", wedging it firmly at its new height with a suitable length of wood. Result.....the engine lifted straight up high enough to simply drag the hoist back and away!! Then reconnected the tailgate struts and back to normal.

Job done!!!! :D

Oh...one more little thing! :D

If the engine has Bosch injectors fitted (incorrectly), would anyone happen to have a set of Lucas injectors that they wouldn't mind swapping for these Bosch ones?

No rush, as I'm planning on a slowwwwwww refurb on the engine before it goes anywhere near under a bonnet!

Cheers

Got Bosch injectors, but that wont help.... Sorry dude.
The throttle spindle seals need doing to.
Other than that, that engine was sweet.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

The throttle spindle seals not too bad a job, is it Doc? (never done one).
Having a quick look in Haynes shows it be more of a fiddly little job, rather than hard work!! (although Haynes doesn't exactly describe the job...the pictures are nice!)

I presume I could buy new seals from any reputable (or not) Diesel engine repairers / suppliers? How about from Cit main stealers?

As I said before....absolutely NO rush, in fact I WANT this to be a long, slow, learning refurb! I've rebuilt most things on a petrol engine before, so want to further my education by doing the same with a diesel lump!

Aye, stripping a Lucas pump is as good deal easier than the Bosch pump.

No special tools required, but it is indeed very fiddly.
I've done a few with the pump on the engine but in all honesty it's a more pleasant job with the pump on a nice clean bench.

It's not usually the seal itself that fails, check the spindle for wear (they do, badly) and check the bush in the lid, they wear too!

All parts are cheaply and readily available from any good Injection specialists. Here in Bristol DTM in Bedminster is the place to go...
