Back again (GTi)

Seems to have a high starting price this time? Has offered to break it though.

Is the man insane? £250 starting bid and £350 buy-it-now?? And it's in South Wales...

Around that will buy you a pretty tidy, decent eBay BX with no corrosion.

Compared to that GTi, this one looks positively tasty!

It`ll be because it`s the sought after GTi hence the price. I wouldn`t want to tell the seller (let`s hope he`s not reading this!) but it`s probably worth £350 in bits at least.
I`ve seen the engines on eBay out of the car (and therefore unable to hear running) for over £200 and on another forum someone offered £200 for a bodykit and some other small pieces from a GTi.
If it was silly cheap and nearer (or the seller could be persuaded to bring it up here where his base is anyway) I`d have it for certain.

The point, as Cavmad points out is that this is a sixteen valve GTI. THe eights are unloved and unwanted because they are thirsty and few can get them to run right without spending much time. The sixteens however are fast and the engine is much favoured for 205GTIs which never had it fitted as standard.so there is a ready market for the engines.

only the early 16v's were classed as gti 16v's!!! not long after they were simply called 16v as it dropped an insurance group!
considering that the 205 brigade will happily spend 3-400 on an engine its not too bad a price! yes it does need a lot of work but if you had a silver p2 then its almost worth a bid purely for all the spares! and then you could rebuild the engine to a higher spec!

At this point. Tom I must rise to the defence of the 'unloved' GTi! I love my two - and the three I've owned prior to that. Yes, they are a bit thirsty, but mated to an auto are really flexible.

I would have a 16v no prob. In fact I will get one one day, same as I aim to get a turbo diesel estate... :)

I had a TZI estate and it was swift but fragile. Couldn't even give it away, despite being a really nice example with a lovely shell. DLM and I ran it for six months and then scrapped it. One that got away.

Lets hope it gets saved, it would be nice to get someone to repair it and not use it for spares/engine doner as seems the norm for a tired valver.

Still think £350 isnt much for one of them. Anyone out there good witha welder?

Fingers crossed.

Like i said earlier, i'd tackle it happily.

Years of welding 2cvs means very little phases me these days.

I dont want a 16v though so is anybody else willing to take it on?
