Digit (?) on French ebay

Post by toddao »

Is this or is it not a Digit? Sure it's got Digit written in the centre console and on the back ( though the sign looks a bit wonky) plus the on board computer but where's the Digit dash? Also I thought Digits were only made in 1985 and this is a 1986 model. Right wheels too. It's not far from here - just over the border and if it had the dash I wouldn't have hesitated. What is it then - a late compromised model? Someone's DIY effort? Any ideas?

Hmmm ...

Thats a strange mix of model fittings to me.

It certainly looks like a series one, with the LEGO dashboard, bumpers, front wings and blinkers. Must be a very late series one to be an '87.

I cant believe its a digit ? The digit model had the very odd - but purely digital - instrument readouts. No moving needles instruments.

Must be 19GT - the 19TRS predecessor.

That looks very much like it could be a genuine digit, but one that the dashboard has failed on, and it's had a replacement from a 19GT fitted.

I like the wheels. UK 19GT "DIGIT" spec cars didn't get them.

The digit badge on the ashtray looks correct, but my Mk1 16TRS auto had the same ashtray and ofcourse it wasnt one.

Does the Digit have the "extra" lights in the pod above the instrument panel (which on a "normal" mk 1 has a blanking plate)? If so, David's theory of a panel replacement holds water.

If not, it's a GT with some badges.... which look 'Shopped to my eye.

I await correction.

The digit has it's mechanical odometer in that spot, with the reset button in the area between the two "windows"... That's a good point, I hadn't thought about that.

However.. Said lamps / odometer is part of the instrument binnacle, and so if it was changed form a "Digit" one to a "GT" one then that bit would change too.....

I'd agree with David,

That is a genuine BX Digit with a failed digit panel and it was replaced with a GT panel.

There's that little scrol thing where the horn switch should be and it's got the trip computer under the radio.

It's an Analogue Digit !!!!

I wrote to the seller requesting a viewing but he didn't come back to me. I reckon all the potential buyers are asking the same question : is it, or is it not a genuine Digit? Which is why the price - at the moment- is so low ( just the wheels must be worth a few €€€s) . David's switched dash idea seems most probable. Those people offering the Digit dash and sundry Mk.1 bits on the forum haven't replied to my PM. Anyone know them?
I've got a trailer lined up and the Merc's ready to pull it.. but my wife has mentioned the D word. Digit or Divorce?
