Plastic glue.

Post by Geoffrey Gould »

Hi all. I have found some plastic 'glue' that is good for repairing the trim and brackets that tend to get fragile. An example being the 'A' post covers on the inside that always seem to end up with the 'U' shaped fixing lugs broken. This does not glue as such but actually welds the plastic back together, giving a as new strength. The name is TENSOL CEMENT No 12.
I got it from a supplier of Perspec etc. that makes signs. It was £4.00 for quite a good sized bottle.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
Geoff.

Slightly off topic, but which glue sticks rear view mirrors onto the windscreen? I've tried one of those sticky pads, but it keeps coming off the windscreen.

I did clean the area carefully & heated up the screen as well to ensure that the pad would stick, but alas, no luck, the other cars were fine though??

Mirror glue.

Post by Geoffrey Gould »

Hi MULLEY What did you clean the screen with? I have used meths but have found that ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL works the best, proper mirror glue from Halfords seems to work. Sticky pads seem to be a bit hit and miss. Make absolutely sure that the mirror is clean.
Some people use aroldite (?) ,oops sorry cant spell, but I was warned not to because it can cause the screen to crack. (To do with different expansion rates.)
Cheers.

I think it was just a window cleaner with a bit of vinegar in it?? didnt realise Halfords sold that type of glue, will have to wip over & get some.

I thought normal glue would just decompose with the UV hitting it? I think the mirror was glued on before by someone (Tim perhaps  ) & of course the mirror fell off after the glue had gotten brittle due to the suns UV, which was a few weeks of owning the doom blue turbo.

Cheers for that.
