What pub car parks? To my knowledge, the only events that ever happen with these cars is CCC related, or if someone is picking something up from another member.

As a forum this place is alive, but as a club it's completely dead (aside from the odd generous donation of parts between members)

Compared to most other brands (including the most dross Rovers and Fords) the BX gets pretty much squat in the way of club activities. The CCC events are only any good for the social aspect of things, with the events themselves being quiet, boring and lifeless. So much potential for a good day out, and it's all wasted.

Just something I was chatting to someone about the other day, so the subject is still fresh in my head. As for it being a classic....bollocks.

Funny that; I distinctly remember a meeting taking place at The Dolphin. Those present, self, DLM, Doc, Bandit and Kitch who gave us a lift down there.

When I suggested putting it all on a more official basis, the membership were very much agains it so you have what you asked for.

There are insurance benefits, a sporadic newsletter and plenty of communication between BXers. There is always something on the events notice board, even if much of it is for CCC events. We have an open invitation at Medway Citroen and Many a BXer has visited myself, Ken, Bandit and Cavmad, to name just four.
I'm not picking a fight here, I'm sticking up for the club. A very good club

Ok,

A) That wasn't a meet, I dropped a sunroof deflector off for Bandit

B) It happened once.

Insurance benefits? Possibly. Newsletter? Hardly! Communication? Yes, thanks to pm's, phones and MSN Messenger but then that only supports the strong forum we have here. The notice board is, as you say, an extension of the CCC one.
Medway offered the ramp space on the odd weekend, and very generous of them to do so. It doesn't make a club, it just shows they're nice people.

I'm not picking a fight either (would anyone pick a fight online?!) nor am I stating its all crap and always will be.

But right now, its a weak club with plenty of potential. A club is only as active as its members and throughout this club, the people who regularly meet up are always the same people.

Theres never any drive to move forward and progress. Its not just here, we also have a BX 16v forum which started because people complained that the original and well presented BX16v.com forum was outdated and not enough happened. The host reluctantly gave up the forum and closed it, and a new one opened which is no busier, nor sets up anymore activities. Its nothing to do with the people as individuals, its a group effort.

As an example, I went to a TVR meet recently organised by a small county-based TVR club. It was held at Brooklands and the day included many convoys from around the UK (good fun in a Tiv), a photoshoot on the banked circuit, an opportunity to do the hillclimb as well as a all the Brooklands facilities.....musuems, Concorde etc etc. People pay because its worth it.

Its not just expensive cars either....I recently bought an MR2 and hooked up to the MR2 club to get techie advice, cheap bits etc. There are regular pub meets, country runs and workshop weekends.

I just think that as an article, the guy has a point. There is some activity in the club yes. Without the club there would be a shite site less, but the activity we do have is slim. Citroens seem to be owned by shy people.

Except Doc. He's offensive and outgoing. He should be president of the club

Never mind president....he should be frickin' Prime Minister! :D

I dunno Kitch. In comparison to other car forums yes, this one is relatively quiet. However we seem to number a small but loyal band and meetings are reasonably frequent, even if it's just members local to each other.
Without this place I wouldn't have met legends like Doc, Ken, Vanny, Stewart, Pilsy, Tim, Mr B, Marty, Mountainman, Oscar and many, many others.
I reckon per capita there does seem to be a good turn out of numbers at national meetings and if we can have more local meet ups between us all perhaps we can drive towards more nationals?
As a humble suggestion how about people volunteer to be regional co-ordinators and arrange for more frequent meetings, perhaps local then national?
One other thing I think we have in our favour is that we seem to have a good mix of age ranges here: I'm very active on other forums but most are geared towards (dare I say it) Max Power type shows and meetings where the person as much as the car are the start so usually based around late night drinking and night clubs etc.

Perhaps if there were more interesting events to go to? just as an example there is a rally event on at the Chatsworth estate (not sure when), now that would be an interesting meet, & also see some other cars bombing about going sideways....

What we need is a trackday, everyone can go at their own speed & have a laugh....or one of those organised weekend driving trips going over some famous roads....

Just ideas guys, so dont shoot me down :?

I hear what you're saying mate, and don't get me wrong....my intention is not to slag the club off in any way, no matter how I've worded it.

What I'm trying to say is that as a club, the movement is a bit weak here. The number of core members who frequently help each other out isn't to be ignored for sure.

Personally speaking, I reckon you guys have got it made in comparison to a lot of us others in other countries.

I get usually one chance a year to "socialise" with any club members. This year if you remember, from when I got out of bed by the time I got there, 8 hours had passed; it's a 4 hour drive at the best of times.
When I got there, there were 3 BXs in the club stand I was at and one other in the display which was a very well worn early GT; that was it.
The BX is fast becoming a classic based on the way it is viewed by the public in general. I was around when the CX was at the same stage and everybody said that the CX would never reach classic status, they said the same about the Ds when the Tractions were all the go and the Traction was never looked upon as anything more than a quirky car with no real appeal in its hey day anyway, but look at it now.
What defines a classic? Most of the cars I see now that they call classics were considered dogs in their prime but gained the status due to their innovative or unique features.
What has a BX got to put it into that category? Plastic bumpers and body panels, hatchback design that is in itself distinctive, sports car performance and handling, limo feeling ride due to the hydraulic suspension, standard features that most others have as extras and all this wrapped up in a body that was one of the first that didn't rust while you looked at it whilst giving small car economy along with a high life expectancy of the mechanical parts and therein lies the reason they have not reached the classic status before this; they have lasted too long, as a result there isn't yet an imbalance between supply and demand.
BX owners are a different breed to most others in that they have their cars to use, not sit there and polish every Saturday afternoon and from what I've seen, the gatherings are as much a social gathering as they are a chance to admire each others cars and if possible assist each other to keep them going right, not as happens with a lot of other clubs, talking about the wheel spinners on the hubcaps, blowing each others ears out with overkill sound systems and acting like bozos in general.

You clearly missed Stratford then Billy!! I'll be amazed if they let us in there next year!
Beer, more beer, brandy, driving Tony Westons H van round the field with a loud hailer on the roof at 0130hours, then changing Vanny's rear spheres at 0200, all whilst bladdered to some pumping hard house provided by a 2cv that upset everyone that wasn't under Vanster's gazebo!

Geography is an issue aswell. Since the hardcore of members here live all over the country regular meets in one location would be near impossible for the majority to attend, which is why I think gate crashing CCC events is not such a bad idea.
After all, we did our own thing at the national rally (it even made it into the Citroënian) and I didn't even bother to look round at Stratford at all. Just hung out with the regulars and got painfully drunk. Both events were great for me, not because it was anything to do with cars, but because I was in the company of people I like drinking beer and talking crap, and it wasn't even all car talk either.
So meetings are good, but they dont necessarily have to be based around a car event. But they absolutley MUST be based around sleeping in a field and getting drunk. It makes the rocking world go round.

Oh, and Kitch, thats the nicest thing anybodies ever said about me! ta chap. I'm offensive, it's official! YAY ME!
