Arn't 4cyl 16v engines more fuel efficient than 8v anyway? :?

I remember that on F**d, the Mondeo 2L returned a much better mpg than the 8v Sierra it replaced. This of course is in a run of the mill car, not commenting on tuned beasts. :D

XM's

Post by ren16tx »

XM's are fab cars,my dad's using my XM sei auto, he filled it with petrol, £75!! the ABS can be a pain, especialy at MOT times! and stupid things, like its blowing a fuse,so it won't start untill its replaced, then blows again! :x
XM's are great cars, when there running, but have a back up car too!! i shall proberly sell my XM next year, when my dad stops using it,as i know i can't afford to run it,the DS23 im buying dose not worry me at all,but the XM scares me to death!!
i think you will soon be bored with a xantia /ZX, now, an AMI Super,if you could find one, would be a cracking car! or if you can strech abit more, you could pick up a D special, easily a useable daily car,
if you go for an XM,just make sure you have enough money in your account to fix it!!
there's always that MK1 BK16TRS AUTO in Henly on thames......... :?:

Depends how you drive them!

The fuel economy really isn't a massive issue. The grin factor far outweighs the cost in fuel. 8V's sound ok, but a valver on full throttle is just glorious.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Doc, you've not heard the roar of a proper engine until you have a 1.9d n/a

I really didn't mind my 19D at all. It was plenty quick enough for me, a doddle to work on, economical and sounded quite sweet for an oil burner.
But the TD lump in it now is a totally different beast, sounds awful compared to the N/A, but the torque and BHP available are more like what I want..

Comparing BX 8V with 16V, the 16V is more thirsty.

Any improvements in efficiency are lost because :

the gearing, the 16V is revving higher in 5th gear than the 8V at the same road speed.

the 16V has more parts to spin round.

you cannot resist using the extra power available.

but, on a longish run, there is not much between them.

The 16V is noisier over 70mph, so this slows me down too, which saves a bit of fuel
la BX 16 soupapes: sachez apprecier avec moderation.

It might be clever now, but it won't be in the morning!
