What a fascinating car. Always liked the look from the front and you just can't go past the MK1 interior!

Shipping aint that much from here to Oz.
Get a container, put car in container, fill the rest of said container with as much crap as you can that isn't readily available in Oz, sell said crap, you'll get your money back on the container!
Jobbed!

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

I assessed buying a 1.9TD BX from Billy a while back and importing it. Turns out that there's more than meets the eye when importing a car to be registered. Apparently I need to have owned the car for at least 6 months or something like that before I can personally import it. I suppose I could buy storage for 6 months!
Unfortunately, according to my enquiries, my budget doesn't extend that far and while I could fill the container with sellable crap, i'd want to come over and do it. There goes my GTI respray!

Thanks for clearing that up Doc. I couldn't remember anymore.docchevron1472 wrote:I believe you have to own the car for 12 months before you can do a personal import to Oz.
But storage is doable if you know the right people....
True...storage is possible but I'd like to see it first before i'd buy.
It's all dreams though.

I've noticed that with the French. There's a French guy around here and he'd rather destroy it than give it away or discount.cauchoiskev wrote:prefer to junk them rather than sell beneath it.

I think its starting to get that way over her as well.......I had my mates old escort estate off him as he was finding it difficult to sell it....long story about it being a 'ringer' then paid out and re reg'd but now (then) all above board but no one wanted to know because of its history.
As he was a cop as well as me there was no problem...anyway I needed it as a real go between as I was doing up my place in france and putting lots of miles on it and it was just the job. After about 2 years it went for its MOT and the guy who did it is a mate of mine said 'this car needs a lot welding and its not worth doing due to its age and value, best you get rid while its still got a month of ticket left'.
Put an ad in the loot for £50 and all I got were calls from gippos etc. and I wondered as I was talking to them 'do I really want these people to know where I live etc etc?'
In the end I took it back to my mate and said ' do you know anyone who can make use of it as I'm going to scrap it rather than get my place burgled for £50'.
Turns out he did and they paid me a bit more as well and did the welding themselves....but sometimes its just not worth the trouble.

Like me or some of the others on here most likely. Shipping is much cheaper to Oz if you don't actually put it into a container and have it driven on to the boat this end.docchevron1472 wrote:I believe you have to own the car for 12 months before you can do a personal import to Oz.

Thanks Billy! Now that you have gotten rid of the Escrot you have room!cavmad wrote:Like me or some of the others on here most likely. Shipping is much cheaper to Oz if you don't actually put it into a container and have it driven on to the boat this end.
I have a mate over here that came over two years ago for work. He bought our Mk1 and loves it. He also brought his rusty 19TRS from England and had it complied and registered. Will ask him what he did and all.
