That amount of KMS is ok as long as it's been WELL serviced and looked after. At that price you'd want it to have had the head and trans done not long ago though.

same colour
It is the same colour as mine but mine has not done nearly that many kilometres! No! mine has only done 292,000 - and the head was done recently.
But now, it becomes a question of just waiting for something else to go wrong - like the clutch, which was replaced at great expense less than two years ago but which is now, apparently, in need of attention.
Tony at Big T Automotive is not sure what the problem is and is still investigating, as of yesterday.

Clutch problem
Well... gradually got harder and harder to get it into first and to some extent second. Tony, at Big T, said that "the clutch" was worn but what percisely he meant by that I'm not sure - he's a man of few words!
But as I said, P504 did the clutch less than two years ago so there's no way it should be that worn! - even if I am a bad driver!

Being an Australian BX 8V it's got the older style fork mechanism. Quite often the fork breaks or starts to bend and for this reason I recommend replacing with the clutch. The other thing which has been a problem recently with Valeo clutches is that the thrust bearing "Self Destructs" which is not good. Happened to me and what happened was that the thrust bearing wears through the prongs on the pressure plate meaning that it doesn't disengage properly and eventually going through the prongs whick rip the bearing to shreds.
I'd suspect a bending fork if it was replaced properly last time (ie: Clutch plate, pressure plate and thrust bearing). From my experience adjusting the clutch mechanism makes it worse and will snap the fork completely.
Find out what he thinks is up.
The clutch will get very spongey if the bearing is going through the pressure plate and the clutch pedal won't travel far if the fork is bent.

Cluthing at straws
...well, no, sounds about right too, Thanks for the advice Michael
I've been bringing our old Mercedes 300 wagon to work this week without the BX , and I just checked the consumption which works out at around 21.45mpg or 13.17 litres per 100 kms - It just cost $75 to fill the tank Mon Dieu!
