Last few BX bits...
Last few BX bits...
One TZD radiator, working fine when last used. One of the plastic plugs has gone but you could use the ones of your old rad I suppose.
£20/offers? Can post out at cost...
One pair of front calipers, again working fine when last used. £25 the pair plus postage?
One pair of BX estate rear calipers. Getting hard to find now, both worked fine when last used. The thin isnpection/protection cover on one has rotted in places. £30 the pair plus postage?
Starter motor, think this came from a 1.9 diesel BX. Worked fine last time it was used. Tenner plus postage?
Any of the above can be collected from Chester if wanted.

Xm's are great!! There's nothing to fear, even with a V6 24v!! Well,
apart from losing your drivers' licence in one trip out and back!
If there is one single aspect of Xm's to worry about, it'd be the same
issue as Xantias. There's a propensity to pop a strut through the bonnet!!
The design of the strut head is far superior on the Bx, although better still,
would be the proper double wishbones set up as seen on a GS/A or CX.
I'd get hold of an Xm asap as the supply seems to be drying out, and
apparently, a load of BX drivers are now buying them!!

I don't know about the later models, but a 1991 model I know is plagued with hard to solve electrical problems.
There is always one or two mechanical/hydraulic issues with it as well.
It is a more complex beasty than a BX, and proportionately more trouble to live with.
As will all be almost free now, I would suggest to anyone buying an xm to buy the newest they can find.

la BX 16 soupapes: sachez apprecier avec moderation.
It might be clever now, but it won't be in the morning!

The electrical issues are now well documented and discussed on the net.
The first original cars had a common earth 'cassette' upon which everything
in the engine bay was mounted onto a series of spade connections. That
was great until you realise the cassette is mounted slightly proud of the
inner wheel arch in the engine bay and is relying on a very small footprint
to earth everything via one small bolt that can set up oxidation easier thus
breaking down the earthing.
I ONLY run the earlier models and have some now running over 200k miles.
The real killer for an Xm is a failed autobox after 120k miles and a
snapped timing belt on the diesels or 2.0i's. At least the V6 unit uses chains.
The real reason some of these can be a real PITA to sort out is the attitude
of the previous keeper expecting it to run on nothing with little if any
sparse servicing, treating it like a cheap banger/workhorse until the bills
quietly rack up and become more than the car is worth. This attitude is
easy when the vicious circle that keeps their resale value at rock bottom
gets folk that run them into the ground thus they're seen at rock bottom
prices.
If anything, a Bx or Xantia is MORE complex to work on as there's less
space than an Xm!! Even without the fabulous DIRAVI steering off a Cx,
the GS proves this when it comes to offering apparently less in the engine
bay with it's air cooling!!

XMs scare me too and I'm crap with mechanics but if the right one came along at the right price I'd go for it. I think I'd like to find out for myself what they're like and take a chance, I've been surprised by car before that had a bad reputation or that I always thought were crap. An XM and an Alfa are two cars that I just have to own one day and as both are available at good prices I think I'd be daft not to.

No!
Try an Xm - you may ACTUALLY like it!! Certainly dull IS NOT a word that
is used in the same sentence as Xm very often and that's NOT because
they're always in self destruct mode either!! What other BIIIGGG Citroen
would you have AS WELL AS (not instead of) a BX, if such a thing could be
justified with the Missus!?
IN FACT I'm ALL for VERY interesting Citroens and only a few hours ago
ebayed another CX GTi Turbo2!!
I don't rate an Xm as boring but WILL happily accept my Xantiae ARE
boring and dependable, EVEN with their trick hydractive suspension on
the VSX's!!
This really doesn't worry me on that cold dark horrible wish I was still
in bed winter morning when the muppet in her Micra forgets to brake
and runs into me BUT IT WOULD IN MY Cx, or Xm for that matter. The
truth is the "boring and reliable" bit is a trait that's indispensable when
I need an against-all-adversity IT STILL GOES Citroen!!
In fact with the newly acquired Cx purchase a Xantia WILL have make
way to create space and it really will be wrench as they ARE endearing
in a "Good Old Shep - don't know how I'll manage without him now..."
kinda way!
Activa is the exception to this attitude to Xantiae - it DOES work!!

Sorry guys - I'LL SHUT UP - I do tend to rise to the bait easily!!
Give me time to get my head around my recently acquired 16v and
I can be more Bx orientated - running to stand still at the moment,
but no I don't fancy any TD bits!!
That said, the rear calipers will likely fit a Cx and Xm and the starter
will probably fit a Xantia!!
So, anyone want an Xm?
