Asking for a weekend of someone's time.

Post by Oscar »

Hi

I need to ask for some time and input on carrying out a few jobs on the TZD. The jobs I need to do are:

Change cambelt, cambelt tensioners and waterpump.
Change brake doseur valve as the internal seals are knackered.
Change octopus.
Change engine mounts.
Free siezed rear calipers, renew rear pads and discs.
Change front pads and possibly discs.
Change droplinks.

The first four tasks make me think that it will be easier to lift the engine out and do them all at once. However I don’t have access to an engine lift, or the expertise to do it.

If anyone can help with space, accommodation, equipment and expertise I’d be really grateful. I could travel up for a weekend, arriving on Friday night and leaving on Monday morning if that’s enough time. Probably some time in January would be best.

I appreciate it’s a lot to ask, but I know that there are members out there who are happy to get into the guts of someone else’s BX for the sheer fun of it. Beer tokens and/or beer can be provided.

Any offers?

Hi Jon

I can definitely get to Swindon, that's great. I'll probably be on my own as Lena will be looking after The Great Dictator.

Will consult diaries and send a defininte date. Magic, thanks

My input here is just to say that a doseur change is actually an easy job - except arguably on a TZD where access is abysmal. No special tools are involved and the bleeding afterwards is always worth doing in the brake lines anyway after a few years.

I'm in for the Doseur. I've done a couple on TDs and I don't see what the fuss is all about. (Last one took no more than three hours. Two tips: Tie the 8mm spanner to your wrist and drop the top engine mount so you can shove a baulk of 3x3 between the intercooler and the bulkhead. ) I have to see El presidente anyway as he has a watch that needs fixing. January, then. Round about the time I'm planning to quit BXdom for ever so it will be a grand farewell.

Sad news for the rest of us, Tom.

Would it be indiscreet to ask why, and to which car you are changing ?

I'm guessing Swedish or Italian?

Oh, and if the cars in Swindon I'll gladly lend a hand, drink beer, and take the pi$$...
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

And what will Tom be doing with his sorted TZD estate?

Dear Tom

I've had the 8mm spanner tied to my wrist for 3 days now, but I haven't noticed any difference in the way the car handles. My wife is getting annoyed as she says that it is cold and keeps her awake (I THINK she means the spanner), and I keep getting electric shocks when I make toast.

Am I doing something wrong?

I think the only appropriate response here is "you utter spanner."
